I would strongly recommend not buying +10 year old speakers unless they are new.
You might want to consider replacements.

My speakers are shot too. I pan the radio to one side.

this was one of the first things i was going to fix when i bought my car, but then never got around to it and doesn't bother me anymore

BMW oem speakers are nothing to write home about. If you like a lot of sound there is a write up in the Knowledge Base section on how to install 6.5" speakers in the rear deck. I was able to install a pair of 6.5' Blaupunkt coaxial speakers in the kick panels of my ti. Sound quality and bass tones are markedly improved. To install don't cut metal out of the panels, just make 4-5 straight cuts outward from the openings, then tap the metal down with a rubber hammer to enlarge the opening to fit the 6.5's. Easy really.
