I've done a bit of research and searching this site along with a couple other bimmer sites... I'm looking to get as much as I can out of the m42, but I cant afford a turbo or supercharger. I looked into nitrous, but cant affford to keep filling the bottles, cuz i know I'll use it even when going to get milk. I want to get a chip for it. As I'm sure you all know, dinan and turner chips offer the same gains (11hp and 19torque). Turner would be the best bet for me, simply because its cheaper (and yes, i know dinans are 50% off right now). I'm just not sure if an 11hp gain will be worth it. After speaking to Turner reps, I found out that they don't/can't custmize the chip for the m42, because thats all I'll be able to get out of the 4 cylinder. Does anybody here have the turner chip that can say good things about it? How do you like it? Is it worth it? when do you notice the differences, if any? Thank you very much guys, i know this gets discussed here every week, but I had to ask -Chris | | | 06-05-2006, 06:03 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Florida Posts: 1,595 | I have it and think it's worth it. The rev limiter is raised and gov. is turned off. Besides the gain in hp/tq. the throttle response is much better and I can feel a difference from the stock chip to this chip. | | | 06-05-2006, 08:47 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: MN Posts: 155 | I had one..could feel a little throttle response and felt a little top end. remember when taking out or putting in the ECU, remove your negative terminal from your battery. if this is not done the chip will be fried! if you want to save some money, get a ecu chip on ebay. $33 gets you a dinan knockoff. same power lower price. works great in my buddies 318. __________________ live with boost | | | 06-05-2006, 09:23 PM | #4 | TRETEN IRGENDEINES ESELS Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: Rhode Island Posts: 3,687 | Quote: Originally Posted by REDIS if you want to save some money, get a ecu chip on ebay. $33 gets you a dinan knockoff. same power lower price. works great in my buddies 318. | If i buy a Dinan product i will only buy the real thing,no knockoff's. Besides i have read so many threads on different forums about the chips on ebay and won't go near them. As the saying goes--You Get What You Pay For...... I don't know why people even bother chipping the ti,is the 300 bills worth the 2 hp? Another 2700 and you can get 50+hp to the wheels from a DASC. __________________ 98 Avus Blue 318 ti Active clear outs all around, stealth turning signals, blue led interior lights, 35% tinted windows,K&N air filter, 12" Kenwood Sub, MTX Thunder Amp,Alpine cd changer, Leatherz Armrest,ACS Pedals/Handbrake/FloorMats & Vitesse Tuning Carbon Fiber B-Pillars/CF Spark Plug Cover, New 16" MSW Typer 14 Rims on Goodyear Triple Treds www.myspace.com/avusblueti | | | 06-05-2006, 10:14 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2004 Location: Muncie, Indiana Posts: 1,551 | I got the Dinan chip a it was well worth it. After you open it, pop out the old chip and put the new one in, it's that easy. | | | 06-06-2006, 06:03 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | looking at the TMS site, i see it has options where you look up your ECU number and such, so it looks like you can install the TMS chip yourself. __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 06-06-2006, 11:36 PM | #12 | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Ridgefield,CT Posts: 62 | does the Dinan chip effect the ews ?? | | | 06-07-2006, 01:07 AM | #13 | Member Join Date: Jan 2006 Location: Ridgefield,CT Posts: 62 | I just orderd the dinan chip from bmw today. what a hassel but thats a whole differnt story. i was going to pay them to install it but if it dosn't effect the EWS ill do it myself.. 11HP 19FPT NOT BAD FOR A $100 | | | 06-07-2006, 06:08 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | i thought the chip had to be programmed to match the signal from EWS security system? maybe im just smoking crack, but i could have sworn there was some electrical issue with having to have the chip programmed to your specific car...and thats why you couldnt switch a chip from one car to another? oh welll...i could be wrong....theres a first time for everything __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 06-07-2006, 06:36 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Berkeley, CA Posts: 411 | The dealer told me that they have to program the computer and quoted almost an hour for installation. 120/hr too.
