Default anyone have the Turner chip?

Alright. I've done a bit of research and searching this site along with a couple other bimmer sites...

I'm looking to get as much as I can out of the m42, but I cant afford a turbo or supercharger. I looked into nitrous, but cant affford to keep filling the bottles, cuz i know I'll use it even when going to get milk.

I want to get a chip for it. As I'm sure you all know, dinan and turner chips offer the same gains (11hp and 19torque). Turner would be the best bet for me, simply because its cheaper (and yes, i know dinans are 50% off right now). I'm just not sure if an 11hp gain will be worth it. After speaking to Turner reps, I found out that they don't/can't custmize the chip for the m42, because thats all I'll be able to get out of the 4 cylinder.

Does anybody here have the turner chip that can say good things about it? How do you like it? Is it worth it? when do you notice the differences, if any?

Thank you very much guys, i know this gets discussed here every week, but I had to ask
-Chris

I have it and think it's worth it. The rev limiter is raised and gov. is turned off. Besides the gain in hp/tq. the throttle response is much better and I can feel a difference from the stock chip to this chip.

I had one..could feel a little throttle response and felt a little top end. remember when taking out or putting in the ECU, remove your negative terminal from your battery. if this is not done the chip will be fried!

if you want to save some money, get a ecu chip on ebay. $33 gets you a dinan knockoff. same power lower price. works great in my buddies 318.

If i buy a Dinan product i will only buy the real thing,no knockoff's. Besides i have read so many threads on different forums about the chips on ebay and won't go near them. As the saying goes--You Get What You Pay For...... I don't know why people even bother chipping the ti,is the 300 bills worth the 2 hp? Another 2700 and you can get 50+hp to the wheels from a DASC.

I got the Dinan chip a it was well worth it. Now if you are looking for some crazy chip gain for 300 bucks buy an LS1 and drop the M42.

i dont have either yet, but i know with the dinan chip it needs to be aligned with the EWS security system...so it would be a best bet to let a dealer install it that can align the chip to your car, but im not sure about turner....maybe im wrong or something

I installed mine in about 15min.
You have to pull out the battery open the compartment and the hardest part is to open the many latches that seal the DME case. After you open it, pop out the old chip and put the new one in, it's that easy.

looking at the TMS site, i see it has options where you look up your ECU number and such, so it looks like you can install the TMS chip yourself.

i thought the chip had to be programmed to match the signal from EWS security system? maybe im just smoking crack, but i could have sworn there was some electrical issue with having to have the chip programmed to your specific car...and thats why you couldnt switch a chip from one car to another?

oh welll...i could be wrong....theres a first time for everything

The dealer told me that they have to program the computer and quoted almost an hour for installation. 120/hr too. If it's just popping it in then I'll do it myself as well.

Then you read this

Part #:
Price:

0
$199.00
Labor Units: 8.0
Emission Status: 50 State Emission Legal
Special Notes: *Check with your dealer. Information must be obtained from the Engine Management Computer.
Peak Horsepower Gain: 11 @ 4500 rpm
Peak Torque Gain: 19 lb/ft @ 2500 rpm
Point Value: 2
