It will always sound closer to a small tuned 'ricey' Japanese engine than a large rumbling American muscle engine, and a louder exhaust will make this more obvious. Not that a new exhaust won't sound good, and a really good one might get you a couple of extra HP- but it's hard to get a badass sound out of an M44. __________________ *Except 318ti '97 318ti M-Sport '95 M3 BMWCCA | | | 12-28-2009, 06:07 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: norcal - 94590 Posts: 3,186 | Whole thread already dedicated to just this topic, complete with pics and clips... http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=25527 __________________ James 95 active w/leather interior and sport interior conversion, Vaders, full M-Tech exterior conversion. Sounded pretty good. not too loud or too "soft" but yet it had that deep tone. more like a bbbrrrvvroom. not ricey. i still have it with my 6 cyl motor swap. still sounds good. i'm around LA so we can always meet up if you ever wanted to take a gander at hearing it. __________________ -Theta Chi- Float like a cadilac, sting like a BIMMER .... my socket is just too thick and won't fit in the hole! damnit! Sure, there might be a little gain on the high end if you run a less restrictive system, but just remember, whatever you gain on the top end, you'll likely lose on the bottom end. It just doesn't work the way you'd think it would. If it did, car manufacturers would have designed it this way from the start The only benefit of an aftermarket exhaust is the sound it makes. You won't feel a noticable improvement. | | | 01-04-2010, 10:45 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Oct 2009 Location: Los Angeles Posts: 33 | i guess your right on that one. haha. alright jess. thanks alot. | | | 01-04-2010, 10:49 AM | #10 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | One thing I forgot to mention though, the stock exhaust is rather heavy. Most aftermarket exhaust are significantly lighter than the factory exhaust, so I guess you can look at that as a nice performance gain. And hey, who doesn't like the sound of a nicely tuned exhaust | | | 01-04-2010, 04:06 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: Scotland coatbridge Posts: 197 | one me and a mate put on my TI it was a PECCO BB4 and its just a backbox http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGcN599iVPY __________________ Last edited by bob///M; 01-04-2010 at 04:10 PM. | | | 01-04-2010, 08:17 PM | #12 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by bob///M | Is your camera made by Fisher Price? | | | 01-05-2010, 02:26 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Is your camera made by Fisher Price? | looks like a cell phone camera lol, I thought that was your exhaust when the little mini bike went past | | | 01-05-2010, 02:49 AM | #14 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | stromung, some video on the dyno so u get the idea http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GplM7pVePqg __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 01-05-2010, 07:22 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2007 Location: DoWNeY, CALiFORNiA Posts: 141 | I actually replaced an exhaust I had that had a really bad raspy and loud sound. Mistake I made was taking the resonator off. All the guys from the So Cal crew could tell you. I hated it. Then I decided to get nice Magnaflow muffler that was a straight through design with dual tips. It was actually a nice muffler and good quality welds. I purchased an aftermarket 2 1/4 resonator. It was about 2 feet long and problem went away. I had no restriction and it even passed smog. I even replaced the cat with a CA approved Magnaflow Catalytic converter. Idle sounded nice and no raspy sound when reving. Everything with installation cost my about $300, that's including the Catalytic converter that I needed. The guy even did a pretty decent weld job. I definitely felt a difference, but it's a 4 bannger. __________________ Road to redemption... | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
