Just hope they dont get all crazy with it and think that the US market needs to be primarily FWD like every other car manufacturer. Like who the heck thought the monte carlo, malibu or all the suv's/crossovers that are fwd was a good idea... pansy american car market | | | 03-18-2010, 09:55 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | I'm sure it has all the parts from the Minis to make this car, like the 4cyl __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | 03-18-2010, 10:21 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Auburn, WA Posts: 1,814 | BIGGGGGGG no no for bmw __________________ 5/96 318TI Sport BIG TURBO | | | 03-19-2010, 03:09 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | | | | 03-22-2010, 01:43 AM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | haha nice pauly! I dont think half know if their car is front or rear wheel drive. I mean in a perfect world people should know the difference, and how to drive both properly. I think that a car looses it soul with front wheel drive. But their is a place for them in this market. I hated the idea of hybrids, electric, and alternative fuel cars. But the past episode of Top Gear when they visited Jay Leno in california showed me the light. They were test driving hondas new hybrid/hydrogen powered car. It seems as if these technologies catch on then the gas powered cars we love with become extinct. But Jay argued that this technology will be the savior of the sports cars. It will bring fuel costs down, and allow sports cars to become used more for what they were designed to be, and not to be owned by families who just want a cool car with all the status which comes with them. Even though this car will not be as good as ours im sure it will help fill a void in bmws market, allowing them to be more profitable, in return putting more money into performance, and the motorsports division. Also this will probably be very low priced, keeping all the frat boy wanna be business men who drive these cars for the badge from buying a new 3er, forgetting to get an oil change, never waxing, and treating it like crap. It is inevitable that people will buy a bmw and treat it like a honda, lets allow them to keep doing this but give them a model that is a honda, with a bmw badge. It sounds genius to me.... | | | 03-22-2010, 04:27 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by lysergicsurfer allowing them to be more profitable, in return putting more money into performance, and the motorsports division. | this is true, and (IMO) it's the one good thing about this travesty, it's worked for Porsche, with the Cayenne and Panamera bringing in profits, they have to the money to spend on all those special, high performance editions of the 911 | | | 03-22-2010, 05:04 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Dec 2008 Location: North Carolina Posts: 190 | Exactly, they arent trying to turn into audi. They are trying to keep up, expansion and profit wise with the competition, while still trying to be the ultimate driving machine. If they have make sacrifices with tradition, in order to keep their head above water in this market, we should support them 100%. Would you rather them make a car which you think is a bad idea to survive, or go down with nothing but pride. No one wanted them to remake the mini, and that came out to be a big success and a great car. Now mini is breaking away and becoming their own company again, therefore bmw has a whole to fill. | | | 03-22-2010, 08:18 AM | #12 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Westfield, IN Posts: 1,335 | Mini is becoming they're own company? Weren't they going to do that a couple years ago or did that already happen? If you think about it, if BMW is going to be profitable with this line of cars, will they be able to make it look the way that they want? Obviously they don't want it competing with the 3er. Perhaps they will put a four cylinder in the car and have it compete with the GTI and Civic. __________________ Greg M42 Club member 186 WTB: HELLROT RED CLUB SPORT 95 ti sold but staying in the family. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
