Engine: Bought from a Forum Member here (Brian) its a 94 M50 VANOS he took care of it and now its my turn.
Problem: driving home from work one day, and i went to make a turn and the car would pass 3500 RPM. i was like hmm thats strange so i pulled over to take a look at my fuses and such nothing was blown i went to go start it, nothing (just one click, then died). i was like hmm weird, so i look and my battery cables were a little dirty cleaned them up and bamm! started right up. so i was like hmm okay must be fixed. then continued to drive home got on the freeway and again wouldnt pass 3500RPM (this is an estimate as my cluster is a 4 cyl cluster and engine is I6 but new I6 cluster should be here tomorrow). so i drove home thoroughly cleaned all ground cables and battery cables and i solved that problem. i was driving around not trying to make thing worse just to work and back. and today coming home it started misfiring and still wont pass 3500RPM. i went to oriellys and got some MAF cleaner, and electrical contact cleaner. worked on the car a little, Cleaned and tested TPS and it was in range to the correct OHMS. cleaned the MAF, but did not test (couldnt find out how to test). checked and tested coils and plugs. still no improvement. i gave up went inside and ate, jumped on the forums and started searching, i think it might be my CPS i have not tested it but will in the morning.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Sorry for rambling. What could it be MAF (when i unplug it the engine dies) CPS (will test tomorrow) anyone have experience with this issue? I dont have much money but hate seeing her running so poorly. TIA
Also not always 3500 RPM could be as low as 2000 RPM or and high as 4500 RPM (based on the sound of engine)
