Smile struts and springs waiting for install...

QUESTION(s): I've had a set of Eibach lowering springs and Blisten struts/shocks laying around the garage for about 5 yrs in NEW condition, never used. I was thinking of finally installing them on my 98ti. What do you guys think? Are they still any good and if so, would that be something I could do myself?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

If they are sport struts I don't think you should install them. Definitely not. You should just sell them to me.

One question, maybe you would know. Are the front shocks easy to install? I haven't seen any DIYs.

maherbaz,
They are sports struts and they suppose to lower the car about 1" or 1 1/2"...can't remember. I am not sure of the difficulty of the installation. That is why I am here to ask. I have done a couple of them on my toyota truck but I realize they are much simpler to work on and it is NOT a bimmer! lol

Actually I'd work on the bimmer suspension ANY day over a Toyota.

MUCH easier.

I'm trying to figure this out...
When I changed the shocks on my escort, I had to use a machine to clamp the spring down.
I think that I don't have to use this for my rear shocks, but my front shocks do have the spring wrapped around them, so I would have to use the compressing machine. Is this right?

Are those tools necessary to replace the front suspesion spring/shock? Can there be any other tool around the house or something you can buy at you local auto parts store to do the job? What about renting the tool?

thanks

my original question has not been answered....are the shocks still good even though they have been sitting around the garage for 5yrs+

thanks

the last time i did a front strut repair ('69 BMW 2002), my room-mate was a mechanic, so he brought a spring compressor home from work for me to use.
before using it, he regailed me with stories of these things slipping or breaking and ripping someone's jaw out.......damn, now i'm hungry

yes, you for SURE want to use a spring compressor (if you need to separate the spring/strut)!
