I have a 1995 318ti which is stock... I'm down to the lower timing chain cover and to take this off I it says I have to set my timing and it said I needed some special tools, do I really need these tools or can I proxy something for it? If not where can I order these tools? What are somethings i might want to know while changing it. Thanks for reading! | | | 03-27-2010, 10:56 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Is there a reason why you are changing your timing chain? __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 03-28-2010, 05:45 PM | #3 | Junior Member Join Date: Mar 2010 Location: Oklahoma Posts: 2 | Well I was driving home from a friends house i started to hear a bit of knocking and it kept getting worse by the time i got to my house it got pretty bad. I opened her up to see if there was scratching anywhere and the only place a found some was just a little bit and it was on the plastic piece that goes around the top of the timing chain and the chain wiggled a bit and I figured it was over do for a new one anyway... | | | 03-29-2010, 12:07 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | The timing chain is usually never replaced, the tensioner is what typically needs to be replaced. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 03-29-2010, 02:52 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: MD/PA/DC Posts: 1,629 | The chain really wouldn't make a knocking sound. Knocking is usually from rod/main bearing problems, or pistons. __________________ No more ti. | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
