I've used the 8500 before and I really like it. | | | 12-05-2004, 11:15 PM | #18 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2003 Location: cary, nc Posts: 2,259 | im a good driver. i follow ALL traffic laws... yeah right...but i generally dont speed that much ... i used to...but not really anymore...dont feel like getting caught with a ticket...and my parents wouldnt let me get a radar detector anyway because to them thats just like i admitted that i speed...in which they would then proceed to not let me drive. their theory is that if i speed enough to need a radar detector, i shouldnt be behind the wheel of the car (on their insurance policy at least). and sicne my parents are paying all the bills, im not one to complain. __________________ 1995 318ti Active Pioneer Speakers [] Aluminum Billet door locks [] ACS Pedals/Deadrest [] ACS Shift Knob / E-Brake Handle [] Clear Corners/Tails/Sides [] Sylvania Exterior Lighting [] Custom CAI [] Dinan Engine Chip [] Dinan Transmission Chip [] H&R Race Springs [] Tokico Illumina Shocks [] BMW X-Brace [] Relocated Lighter Mod [] Custom iPod Mod http://www.cardomain.com/id/robcarync | | | 12-05-2004, 11:42 PM | #19 | Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: camp lejeune Posts: 49 | i just got a Vanlentine 1 a week ago, it is awesome. the best money can buy with a 98% accuracy. | | | 12-05-2004, 11:55 PM | #20 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | I don't use my V1 so I can go 100 miles an hour in a 55. Seems I always get caught anyway. The V1 is useful keeping you in check on local roads. Speed Limit 45 and you are doing 55. Most of the time you don't even realize you are speeding because the road clearly can handle 55. It's 45 so the local revenuers can make some money. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-06-2004, 12:07 AM | #21 | Member Join Date: Sep 2004 Location: camp lejeune Posts: 49 | i just bought mine because i got a ticket 2 weeks ago doing 45 in a 35 @ 2am. Besides im planning to do a couple trips to FL, and i want to get there fast. Do u guys think the ti is any good for long distance trips (about 16000 miles in less than 4 days)???? i bet the V1 would help me then ha!!! | | | 12-06-2004, 12:32 AM | #22 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Greenville, SC Posts: 9,356 | 4000 miles per day? I don't think so unless you are airborne most of the way. I guess you mean 1600 miles in 4 days. If so that is a very leisurely trip. 400 miles a day. The ti can take it. I can't drive more than 8 hours anymore unless I am caravaning or splitting the driving. __________________ ...steven BMW CCA #146825 1996 BMW 328ti • 2003 MINI Cooper S • 2016 M235i www.bmwcca.org | | | 12-06-2004, 03:13 AM | #23 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: state college, pa Posts: 3,431 | if you're gonna hoof it down I95, just stay behind someone that's going faster than you. it's pretty much a given that someone will be, and it's a terrible stretch to be caught speeding. a cb radio would really help you out here (since it's well traveled by trucks), but it's something that takes a bit getting used to. i drove from NY->LA in 4 days two summers ago; a word of advice: rotate your tires after you get back. | | | 01-06-2005, 05:12 AM | #24 | Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Tampa Posts: 465 | my hard wired V1.... the BEST!! | | | 10-30-2005, 05:35 PM | #25 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2004 Location: Tennessee Posts: 523 | I wish i would have bought one i got a ticket doing 108 in a 55 I guess that 340 dollar ticket would have paid for a good one! | | | 10-31-2005, 08:43 AM | #26 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: A few tenths ahead of alaskablue Posts: 265 | to you....LOL.....at least it isn't an exhibition of speed ticket!!!!!!!! Personally, i don't use a radar detector anymore, and i prolly never will....i'm going straight to jamming...by flooding the area with radar bands.....if you all have any questions, pm me...i'll explain it to you! it won't protect you from laser, you'll have to get a shifter to do that. Andrew Edit: And actually, I also quit stopping a long time ago....ahhh, the benifits of driving a geared vehicle.....a few quick turns and i'm gone!! | | | 10-31-2005, 06:26 PM | #27 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Quote: Originally Posted by 1rstbmw! You be lucky...
