Default Any interest in a build thread on E36 seat swap?

Just swapped in leather sport seats from an M3. Used my frame and base, swapped over the cushions. Was actually easier than I had anticipated. Easier than finding donor seats in good shape, lol.

I took tons of pics in case anyone wanted to see the process.

I'd love to see the pictures too.

I'm thinking Vader or sport seats to upgrade the Base seats, I'd like a bit more bolster.

Sport seats seem hard to find.

Will any e30 or e36 seat bolt directly in?

Ok. I'll compile it all and write up a how-to.
Note: these were NOT a direct bolt-in, but so far as I know (did quite a bit of asking around with E36 nuts) any E36 seat will work. The luxury/comfort (read: base level) seats will be very like the stock Ti seats, as they have minimal bolstering. Also note, the swap doesn't seem to differ if the donor seats are manual or powered. Mine were power with heat (not wired in yet).

This build required full donor seats and swapping the bases from ours onto the new seats from the donor. It's not TOO difficult, but does require a little mechanical intuition and a solid afternoon.

Teaser pic for now...

I'm pretty sure that any e36 seat is a direct bolt-in.

Mostly true, dahamler, except they need to be from a coupe so you can still flip the seats forward and have access to the rear. Unless you don't care about that

I was finding it impossible to source a pair of coupe leather seats in any sort of decent shape. Whereas sedan seats were considerably easier to find in decent shape. (I'm assuming because of numbers produced).

Hey RACERetteX,

Do you have more information on how to do this?

A couple important questions:
Do I use the manual base I currently have if the donor seats are powered? Or do I need to wire up power?

I've found some convertible leather seats that might be an upgrade from the cloth ones I've got now (though not the same color :/ ) and I'm trying to decide if I want to try this.
