Default cheapest spot to buy shocks

im looking to upgrade to get h&r springs and bilstein shocks. looking all over the web the springs are averaging $280, and the bilstein shocks are averaging around $550-600 for a set of 4. im trying to find the cheapest out there, obviously

any recommendations of where to buy?

i've been scoping ebay and going under google shopping

i got lucky awhile back. pepboys had the stiffer sport shocks for buy one get one free, and on top it they were on clearance for half price. the store refused to give me both sales, but later they did and i think i got all 4 items for $90 or something. haha. i would check them out and other major retailers if you have time. wait for a good sale

Turner's got 10% off suspension components through the end of the month with the coupon code "springintofall".

As with just about anything, you get what you pay for and quality usually isn't cheap.

And sometimes people pay exorbitant prices for stuff for no good reason.

250,000 miles on my junk tokico's.

I didn't say Tokicos were junk (they're not) and I didn't say that you MUST spend money to get a quality part (you don't always have to). However, in 25+ years of wrenching on cars, I have found from first-hand experience that more often than not, there does tend to be a correlation between quality and price. Sometimes the more expensive part is overkill and unnecessary, sometimes it is not.

That said, I'll generally take a Bilstein shock anyday over a Tokico.

I've searched throughout the 318 site today and seems that the bilstein is the way to go

Now, to find where it's cheapest

Meh, I was extremely disappointed with the bilstein/H&R sport combo, not worth the money imo. Ride was harsh and undersprung, body roll still quite apparent and it felt like the rear of the car wasn't supported at all.

I switched up to koni sports and it made things a little better then linear rear springs helped quite a bit. Now I have TCK S/As and it is wonderful. I have tons of spring options and can adjust ride height where ever I want.

Don't do what I did and spend money trying out suspensions. Go with the good stuff from the beginning if you have any plans of upgrading in the future.

I agree that combo is a little undersprung, but I don't think the ride is harsh at all. In fact, I like the way it rides. If I had it to do over again I know what I do differently (TCK or PSS9), but I was able to pick everything up (Bilstein Sports, H&R Sport Springs, M3 strut bearings, Rogue RSM's, all new hardware and spring pads/plates) for a sweet deal and just couldn't justify the extra money at the time, especially when I needed other things (brakes, for one) replaced on the car as well. Now I know.
