Default 318TI NASA GTS1 racecar 2011 championship podium car

1997 BMW 318TI
2011 3rd place podium finisher at NASA Nationals
2011 NASA Greatlakes GTS1 Regional Champion

I have the title for this car even though it isn’t street legal. This car is very easy to drive. It is very forgiving and very rewarding. I’ve had this car for 5 years and it’s time to race something else. This car has a NASA logbook and has run in GTS1 and GTS2. It is currently setup for GTS1, but I have the drivetrain parts to install another M50/M52/S52 in it. I think you will be hard pressed to find a TI as well built and as thoroughly developed as this one anywhere.

This car is race ready! It raced last weekend at Autobahn and it will race in October at Road America if it isn’t sold!

Price:
$12,500 obo with current engine
$12,000 with chipped OBD1 M42 (131rwhp, and no need to run ballast with a lighter driver)
$13,000 with chipped OBD1 M50/M52 to run GTS2
$14,500 with chipped OBD1 S52

I’m also willing to sell it as a roller.

I’m open to offers and interesting trades

Current Best Lap times:

Autobahn South: 1:39.1 (New track record 9/2011, beat old record by 1.4 seconds)
Mid-Ohio Pro: 1:41.3 (GTS1, 9/2011)
Mid-Ohio Club: 1:43.5 (GTS1, 4/2011)
Putnam Park: 1:20.4 (GTS1, 5/2011, under the ’race’ track record by 1 second)
Putnam Park: 1:18.5 (GTS2 trim, but less developed car 5/2010)
Mid-Ohio Pro: 1:39.1 (GTS2 trim, but less developed car 4/2010)
Grattan: 1:27.7 (GTS2 trim, but less developed car 6/2009, before Grattan was repaved)

Body:
2400lb dry weight
2667lb target weight in GTS1 (60lb lead ballast, no fuel, 210lb driver)
Lexan windshield
Folding tow hooks
Custom fiberglass dash (original available and it still fits)
Autometer gauges (tach, fuel level, water temp)
Custom wired with military grade connectors and waterproof fuse box
Odyssey P680 dry cell battery

Safety:
Mark McMahon TIG welded 8 point cage with NASCAR door bars. This is a beautiful cage that fits perfectly. You’ll be hard pressed to find a cage built with better craftsmanship.
Sparco Evo2 Seat
2013 Sparco Hans FIA 6pt belt
Center net
Window net
SPA built in fire suppression system (3 nozzles on driver, 1 in engine compartment)
Spare seat and belts for instruction or driver’s ed
Wink 5 panel rearview mirror

Chassis:
Revalved Koni Double adjustable shocks (rebuilt fall 2010)
Currently running about 850fr/1100r spring rate
Vorshlag front camber plates
Treehouse delrin front control arm bushings
M3 front spindles
Front tie rods, lower control arms, wheel bearing replaced in 2010
Sparco strut brace
Delrin rear subframe and trailing arm bushings
Rear subframe raised ½”
Monoball rear upper shock mounts

Aero:
Good Aero carbon fiber rear wing
Front splitter
Dive planes
Full removable aluminum undertray (complete body)
Custom side skirts (originals are available and still fit)
Vented Hood
Rear Diffuser

Brakes:
Kompakt Motorsports custom 4 piston brakes front and rear (e46 M3 rotors)
Stainless steel brake lines
Factory ABS system

Wheels/Tires:
1 set 17x9 D-force wheels with 245/40/17 Hoosier R6
Wheel studs all around
15mm H&R wheel spacers in front

Drivetrain:
4.10 medium case LSD rear end with upgraded 4 friction plates (new 2011)
Kompakt Motorsports body mount shifter
Aluminum Engine/Trans mounts
Upgraded to larger E30 325/M3 half shafts

Engine:
New custom M44 with less than 10 hours of run time on it
1mm Oversized Valves
Mild porting
Metric mechanic valve springs and retainers
H beam connecting rods
0.50mm over bore pistons
4 into 1 header with custom 2 1/2 inch exhaust
GM LS2 coils with widegap sparkplugs
Link Atom Standalone ECU (tunes for 93 octane and E85)
AEM wideband O2 sensor

This engine was built to handle way more power. Add a set of cams and this engine will easily make 180hp at the wheels. Current dyno sheet of 144rwhp and 131ftlb

Cooling:
E36 6 cylinder radiator
Canton Expansion tank (Easy to bleed the system)
New thermostat/waterpump

Wow, gorgeous car! Good luck with the sale, wish I could afford it. Was it pretty easy to get the 6 cyl radiator to work?

Bump....still for sale.

This car just competed at Road America last weekend.

It won the last race of the season. It set a new GTS1 track record at 2:44. It also won the Midwest and Greatlakes GTS1 regional championships!

You can win in this car!

To bad there is no GTS1 competition here in the Florida region. Slowly building my Ti to try to compete better in TTE. A friend of mine was running a very nicely prepped e30 318is in GTS1 here in Florida but moved to GTS3 in a p-car for more competition. Even then, they have frequently been combining with non-GTS cars in other classes to have larger fields for contingency.

Have a competition weight of 2340 in TTE, so will probably need to look for another few HP as I'm not sure if I can get the car down that light.
