Throttle Pedal Falling Off

I did some searching around the site and couldn't find anyone with this problem. Basically my throttle or "gas" pedal is falling off. When I went to leave for work today, I noticed the pedal felt odd under my foot when I reversed out of my spot, so I parked again and got out to take a look. It was loose at the top and bottom of the pedal. I was able to slide it back onto the lever on top but the bottom was still loose and it slide around left to right the whole drive to work, nearly falling off several times.

I'm at work now but in a couple hours when it slows down around here I may be able to sneak outside and take a few pictures, but it will likely be very dark by then.

Has anybody else had this problem? Am I going to need to buy a whole new pedal or is there a way to repair the one I've got?

The pedal is connected at the bottom (floor) via a slot and clip arrangement. Basically, it pushes straight down into a cutout in the carpet where a metal slat sticks up. It snaps into place there and there is a lock clip on the back of the pedal to prevent it from coming up and out.

If your pedal just came out of the floor, you should be able to push it back into the slot and firmly press down until it pops/clicks into place.

If your pedal broke off at the floor (you see a small plastic plate still in the floor) then it needs to be replaced.

I just managed to take a peek and I'm quite sure it's broken on that lower hinge and will need replacing, hopefully I can find the part locally and won't have to drive around with a loose gas pedal for the next week or so.

I'm a bit concerned with getting that piece thats stuck in the floor out, any tips? I figure I'll just go at it with pliers until it comes loose.

Yeah, getting the bottom section out is a bit of a pain. I used a Cats Paw (wide, flat pry bar) to pop it out when I broke mine. (I had to order a pedal from Pelican parts.)

For the interim, I used some heavy plastic (old battery tray), heated it up until it was pliable and bent it into a L shape to fashion a temp hinge which I screwed on the back of the pedal and floor parts.
