Default Auto to Manual Conversion Feasibility

Hi,

I own a 1999 318ti that is an automatic. I really would love a manual transmission on it, as it has a DASC and is a M-Sport edition. I was wondering what is the feasibility of doing an auto-manual swap? I have seen the official thread on bimmerforums, but nothing really for a 318ti specifically. Would it be better to try and find a wrecked but salvageable 318ti and yank the parts out of it, or try and purchase each part individually online? Also, is this even viable to do, or just unrealistic?

Thanks,
Alex

Bodies of the auto or manual are the same. Be easier with a doner, maybe one with a blown engine. Need: trans, clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, trans mount, pedal assembly, master and slave cylinder, hydraulic lines, Shift platform with rear mount. And will probably want the rear diff, most autos had a 4.44 diff I believe and with a manual your top speed would probably be around 90mph. Manual cars had a 3.45 diff

Just following up on this thread because I have a 96 318Ti with an automatic and I am thinking of doing the same thing, swapping for a manual. Any progress on your swap?
Thanks
