BMW claims 209 km/h (130 mph) for a 5-speed 318ti. Sooooo, who wants to check that?

The U.S. speed limiter keeps the car below 190 km/h (118 mph).

The number I quoted was from a 1997 brochure for an M44 'ti.

But, that number was for a European M44 'ti after BMW reduced the final drive ratio from 3.45:1 to 3.38:1 -- for marketing reasons. A later American 'ti sans speed limiter could be faster.

You guys in the U.S. get all the good stuff.

Default speed limiter

How does someone bypass the limiter without doing any damage?

Hi,
I recently had my ti re-mapped and the top speed on the rolling road was 140mph, other than a remap its totally standard this also removed my rev limiter.
Before remap it was 128bhp at wheels but now its 150bhp at the wheels.
Hope this helps

Who did the remap? Do you have a dyno showing 150hp at the wheels? I'm a bit skeptical about this, as Dinan was only able to make an additional 5hp at the wheels with an ECU remap. Please post more information.

Yeah he also said it was BHP which is different from Hp, BHP or british horse power is less then standard HP. Mabye some computer guy found a way to get more hp then dinan.
