Hellrot is a color just as SchwarzII, AlpineWeis, ArtikSilber, AlaskaBlau, AvusBlau, MoreaGrun, BostonGrun, MontrealBlau, CalypsoRot, CordobaRot, SierraRot etc...
California top is an option in regards to a special type of cloth sunroof. As far as models go, they did make a California top edition, but that's not as common as the base, sport and active models. Base models are just that. Base, nothing more nothing less. Sport models came with sport seats, sport suspension, plastic sideskirts, and foglights. '96 and later sport models also came with Mtechnic bumpers and side moldings. Active models came with an on board computer(OBC) also known as a multi function clock. There's other small things like cruise control and LSD that were offered depending on the year and such, but these are the easiest ways to distinguish different models.

My son has 06/95 318ti Sport with m-technic bumpers (front and rear), metal sideskirts and above items listed.

Where on this site defines the different models (base, active & sport)?

Then those where added later. It was not an option in 95. Standard on the Club Sport, yes.

This is old but outlines some of the differences.

My sons car is stock and unmodified until we had it repainted last summer due to clearcoat peeling. I personally know the prior two owners.

Then you truly have a one of a kind since I've never heard or seen of a 95 with Mtechnic trim other than a CS from the factory.

I just reviewed the URL. The information in the URL is compiled by this website not BMW.

The compiled data is great help to everyone looking to purchase or own a 318ti. All I'm stating is this compiled data should not be considered 100% accurate.

Is anything on the internet accurate? Hell, the photo in the Club Sport brochure from BMW is not accurate.
