Oil pressure light isn't on, so better chance of it being a piston problem. This is getting to the point where I usually take a sledgehammer or sawzall to the car. And it ain't a subaru. That's my ti __________________ No more ti. What do you need? | | | 06-23-2010, 04:21 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: San Diego Posts: 340 | When did the sound start / what triggered it? Can you identify where in the block the sound is coming from? Naturally it's hard to tell what it really sounds like from the recording. Sounds like only one cylinder is affected, but is it one event per revolution, or one event per combustion cycle? That will help you tell if it's the top or the bottom end. I like to use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope, to listen to where it is coming from, and whether it matches the pattern/speed of the valves, or that of the pistons. tbw __________________ 1/1997 M44 ti M-Sport Schwartz II | | | 06-23-2010, 05:33 PM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: May 2007 Location: LA, Bellflower, CA Posts: 3,613 | sounds like something chipped. thats how my motor sounded when i hydorlocked it, it was a chipped piston and bent rod. And it had one put in 500 miles before that! And a head gasket 10K before that.... Sorry bout that. I'm a bit purturbed. It's not worth fixing. Anybody want it? It's a pretty clean, rust free car with a very intersting history. And a couple grand worth of new parts! Sounds like the middle of the block...I'm pretty damn sure it's a piston. I still have the car's second motor. The bottom end might be OK, but I don't have the time or patience (nor money) to put another motor in the car. I'm going to focus on getting my accent back together and sell that and attempt to get rid of the BMW. Back to full size fords for me. __________________ No more ti. It's def. understandable though and you've got more important things in life to spend your time/cash on. For anyone who is interested, as he has stated and after seeing the car a few times in person, it does indeed have a fairly clean exterior/interior that's worth saving if you've got the resources/time to do a swap. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
