Seemed to work great until this morning, when the CEL came back on. Wonderful. | | | 10-04-2006, 06:44 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Port St. Johns, Florida Posts: 2,242 | Quote: Originally Posted by IndianaTravis I had a generic catalytic converter welded into my car on Saturday. Check you 02 sensors, before you blame the cat, even a non-BMW cat should work legally they have to. mmmm If you have a decent mechanic, have them run a reader on the CEL and see what it say the code is. | | | 10-04-2006, 06:50 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2005 Location: Milwaukee Posts: 236 | I was warned by the exhaust guy that he has seen this problem before on BMWs. I had him do it anyway. I got about 400 miles out of it since. I'm going to have the code read and see what it says, and I might must change the o2 sensors anyway. Some reading on bimmerforums.com indicates there could be an issue with the placement of the cat relative to the second o2 sensor, and that the light will periodically come on. I don't know much about that, but investing in a code reader/reset tool would be a good idea anyway. No funny smells from the exhaust, and the car is still running strong, so I'm not terribly worried about it, until next year at this time when I have to register the car again! | | | 10-04-2006, 10:18 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | There is a little gizmo that replaces the rear o2 sensor and fakes the computer out. Then you just tie the connector up out of sight.... The issue is that the sensor needs to see certain temps to work correctly which makes placement a bit of an issue. I'm not sure who makes one for BMWs. __________________ '99 Dinan M3 | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Thread Tools | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
