I noticed one of my front door speakers was rattling today. Sounds like the paper cone has had it. first of all, are those speakers replaceable from BMW, or are hey the kind of setup that gets destroyed when removing and there is no point in replacing them with factory. I'm keen to stay on factory cause the paper cones have the best sounds imo. If they are replaceable, do you still think they should be replaced with aftermarket ones? I'm not running an amp or anything, and don't really intend to. Thanks in advance! They are indeed paper, and they are very replaceable. I would not replace them with OEM speakers because of the high cost, but instead, if you really like paper speakers, just buy a cheap after market set. BMW speakers are generally of only average quality for some reason. The kick panel speakers are 5.25 inches. Good luck. I'm looking to replace the two pairs of door-panel speakers, thought that's what what the OP was talking about, but maybe not? Any ideas for better than factory quality replacements for those speakers? | | | 01-28-2012, 11:47 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: Sydney, Australia Posts: 593 | The 5 1/4" were replaced about a year ago. The ones that are gone are the 2.5" in the doors | | | 01-29-2012, 12:00 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2007 Location: Rocky Hill, CT Posts: 1,065 | They are easily replaceable. Pop the door panel off, then you'll see that they are two pieces that screw together in place. I have a set on the shelf at home, you should be able to find a used set cheap __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS. S50 cams+pistons, e36 M3 front brakes. H&R race springs F+R. However, if you want to get creative you can replace them with larger after market speakers. I replaced the two mid range speakers with larger coaxial drivers, I can't remember what size. If you try this I suggest that you use heavy duty hot glue and/or epoxy glue to put things together. The diameter of your aftermarket replacement speaker can be larger than the oem speaker opening if you don't mind mounting the speakers in an offset fashion. Sound is not effected. The most critical measurement is to make sure that your aftermarket replacement isn't so deep that you can't fit the door panel back on the door. That's the only tricky part of this mod in my opinion. It took me awhile to get everything to fit, but I am very pleased with the improvement in the sound quality, and I am still using the factory head unit. If you like to think outside the box, this is a very fun project to do. Good luck. The tweeters required about 1/16'' wider opening of the stock door panels. Typing short because I'm on my tablet __________________ 1995 318TI base. 95 2.5L from 325IS.
