Default Water pump

Does anyone know where I can find a 318ti water pump with the metal impeller? These plastic aftermarket ones are crap and I have replaced it 3 times in the last year.

Autopartswarehouse lists 3 or 4...I'm not sure if any of them use the metal impeller though. Weird how pelicanparts has the metal impeller version for the same cost, just not our cars.

http://www.rockauto.com/

They list a BMW brand water pump for $100.99. This is more expensive than all of the other brands, and leads me to believe it may be metal impeller. But that's just IMO.

You can also try autohausaz.com, they list the metal Graf unit for $67.

Why not just OEM? The waterpump in m42 and m44 Ti's is identical to the waterpump from the 4 cylinder e30's. It does not have a plastic impeller.

I didn't realize that Graf was a metal impeller. Thanks aceyx. If the plastic impeller pump that I purchased earlier this year ever goes out I'll search for this post again!

NO! Replace it now.

When plastic impellers fail, they can send little bits all around your cooling system. Those bits can clog your radiator (I shouldn't have to mention how not good that is).

I'm not sure why the plastic ones still exist. BMW realized their mistake and now only uses the metal ones (which is why I mentioned the dealer first).

Thanks much everyone. I just purchased the metal water pump from Autohausaz.com for $58, which was even cheaper than the older plastic one. My original factory water pump actually did send bits into my radiator....lets just say I had to replace that also. I hope this metal impeller does the trick.
