Default What is this connector for????

So i was pulling my center console out because i am replacing it with one that has an arm rest, anyways when i pull it out i find that i have this random unused connector under there anyways this is it <see attached picture> and it has 5 wires with the colors of 1)Red/White 2)Blue 3)Brown 4)Brown/White 5)Purple/White.


any ideas??

Did your car start life with an automatic transmission? I believe the socket for the A/M switch is a 5 wire socket and would be found in the console area.

Could that be the prewiring for a mobile phone? I recognize a few of the colors.

no, my car began life as a manual. and interesting, i hadnt thought that it might be a mobile phone thing....maybe, ill check the voltage on it tomorrow and let you know whats what if that might help out any.

For a question like this, I'd compare the wire colors in the BMW Electrical Troubleshooting Manual.

is that online? The only manual i have is the Bentley for e36 cars, and its not always particularly helpful due to the differences between the ti and regular e36 cars

Those look 100% aftermarket. BMW Factory doesn't use electrical tape, ... Maybe a dealer accessory.

sure looks like the factory pre-wire phone plug to me - I ran down this same rabbit hole 3+ months ago and asked same question ....
