Looking for a K&N air filter for my '95 ti. Part # 57-0206. Hopefully someone will have one lying around! If not, where do you think would be the cheapest place I could get it? I found it on K&N's site for $101. | | | 06-01-2009, 12:53 AM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | get a Cosmo Racing intake and put a universal K&N cone filter on it, it's pretty much the same thing | | | 06-01-2009, 01:46 AM | #3 | Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: St. Louis, MO Posts: 91 | I would do that but Im a little worried about the quality of cosmo (its a lesser known brand). | | | 06-01-2009, 01:57 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | either way it's just a metal pipe with an adapter plate, only difference is the filter | | | 06-01-2009, 03:08 AM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | I'd stay away from K&N. It's been known to screw up the MAF at around the 50k mark. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. Mav, what does MAF stand for? | | | 06-01-2009, 03:13 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | It really doesn't give too much horsepower. A cold air would get you 2-7hp imo. A short ram would probably give .5hp. It does make the acceleration more responsive. The sound difference is not that bad at all. All I can say is that you wont be disappointed with the sound. I love the growl it gives when you accelerate hard. A K&N drop in square filter really doesn't do anything for sound. And probably only gives 1hp. __________________ Come get a ti-shirt Quote: From the e30 M3, evolved the e36. Most intakes I have seen on BMWs with no other mods either made no power or lost power. __________________ -Jeff | | | 06-01-2009, 03:21 AM | #9 | Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: St. Louis, MO Posts: 91 | | | | 06-01-2009, 03:22 AM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2008 Location: Raleigh/Charlotte, NC Posts: 1,233 | Roadblkx, if you want an intake you can order the K&N one or the cosmos. K&N usually has a plastic pipe for their filter, comos is probabbly metal. six of one half a dozen the other, you wont notice a difference. I would not trust the cosmos filter though, use a K&N filter as TiFreak said. Stop by and check out my car sometime, my intake is home made and just as good if not better than anything you can buy. __________________ -Jeff | | | 06-01-2009, 03:27 AM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | Quote: Originally Posted by Xenocide Cite information please. All "K&N" style filters need to be oiled every 10k miles. That is how they trap dirt and debris. If you do not oil the filter, its not filtering . Oil on a maf sensor will not kill it either. A q-tip with some rubbing alcohol is all you need. __________________ -Jeff | | | 06-01-2009, 03:30 AM | #13 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Quote: Originally Posted by Xenocide Cite information please. It is just how they are designed Thanks again for backing up my point. Edit: and the second post in the second link. Any non-factory, non-paper filter NEEDS to be oiled, otherwise its NOT A FILTER. __________________ -Jeff | | | 06-01-2009, 03:33 AM | #15 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2008 Location: Austin Posts: 3,059 | Quote: Originally Posted by Xenocide Oil on a maf sensor will not kill it either.
