Default Can anyone tell me what this is?

Sorry if I sound like a nutcase, but I just went outside and never noticed this thing hanging under my car before. Towards the left I know thats the catalytic converter (as I had it replaced a few months ago) but to the right... What is that large thing?!

I'm really concerned, I don't remember seeing this thing before.

Oh? I never saw it before until just today, and I haven't driven the vehicle in about 3 days. Is it common for that to just fall like that? It looks like heating ducts that you'd have in a house... LOL. I thought heat shields looked more "textured" if that makes sense. Thank you!

The sheild is made out of aluminum and the mounting screws are made out of steel. So the dissimilar metal corrosion eats away the aluminum and when you hit a bump or just tome they fall down
