Default stupid exhaust pfft

I have a power flow exhaust i think its just a back box which must be poorly fitted .. and they guy who purchased must of got asked how loud and he must of been like "The Loudest EVER" where as i would of been like a "deep throaty rumble please" .. needless to say its stupidly loud .. it sets of car alarms and generally has un bmw sound .. so i took it to a powerflow exhaust fitter place and said they can fit a silencer to it at some cost but is there another way you can silence it.... i heard stuff some wire wool in .. is this viable or not? where can i get the wool? is it some kind of wool & steel or just wool made of steel? .. and if it is would that not make it resonate even worse.

I had to ditch my Magnaflow because it had no packing material.
Personally, I'd ditch your exhaust and get something else.
I can't see disassembling an exhaust and then welding it back together.

It's more than just sticking material in there.
The material goes in chambers.

What error? Error 500?

Maybe you could get one of those little clip-in whistles from Halfords then people will think you've got an exotic Japanese forced induction thing going on...

I think I read a story about someone who tried stuffing steel wool in their exhaust to quiet it and ended up lighting it on fire and leaving burning pieces of it on the road

if I were you I'd just get a new muffler, maybe do a little research to see which ones have a good sound on a 4-cyl. car

Look around your area at the muffler shops -- talk to a couple guys and see if there is someone smart enough to work with you. There's a place I pass regularly on the way to work that always has some hot rod in for custom work. That's where I take my exhaust questions, and all my exhaust repairs -- cuz I just can't stand to leave it stock...

Burns Stainless (http://www.burnsstainless.com/) sells muffler packing material. I made a temporary muffler for my car with the stuff, and it kept it quiet below 4K, but then sounded like ass after that. It also needed so much packing to get those results, it choked off the car.

I replaced that with a 60 series Flowmaster and I've been really happy with the volume and tone.

My full setup is custom 2.25" mandrel bends, high flow cat, straight through Magnaflow (as a resonator) and the 60 series.

Only the stock BMW exhaust is any good for keeping it quiet in the UK. They are loads new so try and get a decent second hand one. They are worth their weight in gold in my opinion. They weigh looooooooooads, but last ages. I had a bosal (really loud didnt fit), a walker (got louder and cracked), a timax (craked in half), a eurocarpart one (baffles rattled loose twice) so I got a secondhand BMW one and the job is solved. I will always get it repaired now rather than getting a new one!

Weight is why I built mine. Total weight for the header-back on mine is under 30lbs.

I put an ANSA Sport exhaust system on my previous Ti, it was great for the money. Just a tad more tone than the stock. I'd just throw your old old one away.
