Default Door lock

Hi everyone!

It seems my passenger door lock is acting up. Sometimes it'll work when I press the door lock button on the center console and sometimes it won't. Could it just be a loose wire or something to that extent? The drivers side works fine all the time. It seem to work more often when its really hot outside and the car has been sitting for a while. Thanks.

I had the same problem with my '98 318ti. At first the driver's door would sometimes not lock when the remote was activated or it wouldn't unlock when using the remote. About 3 weeks ago it stopped being "sometimes" and became fully non-functional. I had to take it in for a regular inspection and asked them to check it out. I was told the activator mechanism was broken and needed to be replaced - for $300! And they needed to order the part so it couldn't be done for a week or so. Since it locks OK with the key I'll delay that repair for a while and live without the remote.

I bought the side air bags, I want the door panel inserts that the airbags sit behind. I'm not sure, but it seems as if the panels with airbags are designed to pop out in response to an airbag ejection.

Can you photograph yours, so I can be sure before buying?
