Default Depo headlights help

I just got a set of Depos with angel eyes for free from a friend of my dads, the reason he gave them to me for free is because the wiring is all f*cked up. the last person who had them spliced a bunch of wires, a couple of them have the insulation burned off and instead of the twist off connector they just added individual wires for each of the pins.

it's all a complete mess and it's probably going to be a pain to fix it all, so is there a way to just buy all the wiring and then just rip all that crap out and replace it?

I didn't know how bad they were before I got them so I'm glad I didn't pay anything for them

Brendan, you can just wire them up yourself. If you look at your old headlight connectors, there's two per headlight. One is for the high beams and the other is for the low beams. Each connector will have a brown wire and another colored wire(can't remember the color). The brown is a ground and will need to connect to the metal housing inside of the headlight assembly. The other wire is positive and connects to the headlight bulb. I did this on a pair of Depos that I had from a guy who did the same thing. Don't cut or splice your original connectors. I made my own wires and used spade pins then plugged them directly into the factory connectors. This was a temporary fix on a customers car. You can buy the matching connectors seperately through DDM or any other Depo vendor. Make sure you don't get the highs mixed up with the lows and make sure the browns are going to grounds and the others are going to the bulbs. Cover any exposed wire or metal pins with electrical tape as to not cause a short. Oh yeah, you'll need the ballasts for the angel eyes if you didn't get them with the lights. They splice into the corner lights unless you want to run a switch and relay to make them work separately.

Pauly, before you spend any money buying connectors or anything, give them 12v and make sure everything works and they're worth the $$

yup, they've got the ballasts in them, and I know I can just buy the connectors, but I don't think I've made it clear just how bad the wiring is

Yeah, just rip all that crap out and start over with good clean wire. Make sure it's atleast as thick as the wire coming from the factory harness. BTW, those are H1 bulbs, you'll need to remember to get H1 bulbs from now on.

is there anyplace that I could find a wiring harness to work with? I'm sure not going to use what's in there as a template

are the high and low beams both H1 bulbs?

IIRC some vendors sell them, but you're gonna be replacing the internal wiring. The harnesses they sell go between the factory connectors and the connector on the back of the headlight. I just made my own for a customer. Had a few feet of spare wire laying around, crimped some spade connectors on the ends and covered with heatshrink. Yes, highs and lows are both H1's.

I'm kinda tempted, I'll see what I can do with mine first

are those the ones you have with the frenched high beams? looks like they don't have angel eyes

on another note, another one of my dads friends has a set of angel eye headlights he's willing to give me because one of the lenses is busted. if they're Depos and the wiring is in good shape I might just swap the broken lense and use those

Pauly, correct, I have frenched high beams, and no angel eyes. You're welcome to keep the angels too, I prefer DRLs over angels. Just let me know..

I'll think on it, just so you know here's a list of things wrong with the Depos (except for the wiring)

- clips that hold corners in place are broken on both sides, one side still has the clip that you can use to do the zip-tie fix on it, the other one is completely gone
- three metal clips on one light and one plastic clip on the other light that hold the lenses on are broken/missing
- one of the covers for the back is missing

just figured I'd let you know in case that's a deal breaker for you

well apparently the headlight is totally smashed, not just the lens, so I think I might just get new ones

these look like a good deal to anyone? they have the LED angel eyes which is what I really wanted for the brightness and they've been professionally installed so I'm assuming that means no suitcase connectors

Pauly, I could use the angel eyes out of those if you decide to not use them, or if the smashed ones still have the angels, that's be awesome. Mine only work on one side, so I don't have them connected
