Default Totaled?!

FOR SALE: $3,000 OBO

Was at a stoplight and a f150 rear ended me at about 30mph, pushing me into the xterra in front of me. The pictures do not show the damage very well but the entire back end needs to be replaced. The front end looks worse in the pictures but believe me its not. I think she is totaled but the verdict comes Tuesday.

1997 318ti Sport with 54k miles.

You guys think its totaled? Need any parts from it? And what would be a good replacement?

just judging by what i can tell, id say its close to a write off... but it doesn't look like it crushed any bumper supports or anything... looks like new hood, front bumper, nose panel, grills, hatch, and and some body work to the mid section below the hatch....

i don't think they'll write it off but im sure write off standards are different from where i am to where u are... so who knows.

Engine still ran after the accident but the fan was pushed onto it.

On a strange note the glove box exploded into the passenger seat when I hit the car in front of me.

But the CD player did not skip! Go alpine

Took me awhile to find her. Still in mourning

If she doesn't get totaled I will be putting her up for sale after the bodywork if anyone would be interested. Obviously cheap...

Bummer! Keep us up to date on developments. I'd consider buying both fenders and some right side wheel and steering stuff like the rack and knuckle and suspension parts, the R front strut and maybe the wheels. I think mine may be worse off than yours, since it has quarter panel damage (both sides) and more than twice the mileage. Mines going to totaled too, so its all about price. I'll have to repaint it too, so I'm really on the fence as to what to do with it. What part of California are you in?

Ill be a little surprised if its totalled since it only has 54k miles. I would definitly argue/ fight it if they try to write it off. The worst thing to fix will be the metal under the tail light and hatch. Everything else is just replace it, paint it, drive it kind of repair. Doesnt sound like the motor is too bad either. Seriously, fight it if they try to total it. Id come and fight for you if you were closer. That ti is absolutely perfect and NEEDS to stay on the road. I would definitly buy that car from you when its time to sell if it still has a clean title.

damn another accident. low miles, too. that's a damn shame.

i think insurance will def consider it totaled. but we all know one man's trash is another's treasure. i think someone would be very glad to work on that thing. mine had somewhat similar (less) damage before i got her.

if you part it out, please sell me your rear diffuser! ty

Dont encourage that! Seriously, with 54k miles on it you should try to save that! That car should not be totalled with that kind of mileage. Avoid that salvage title!

I would try to fix it, but that's me. :P Otherwise I would be interested in the rear bumper if everyone else doesn't take it, that's if you parting it though.

I would find the best BMW or german auto body place and try to get them to take a alok at it. My gut says they may try to total it but you have a great arguement due its low miles and rarity. If they do total it consider buying it back and having it fixed yourself. Alot of times if it's a cash deal shops will work with you on price.
