Default hello from Sonoma Co, CA!

Hi guys, been using the site for a few years now and figure I should introduce myself

I bought a red Active 96 ti 5-speed a few years ago, and I learned to drive stick in it. Yes I bought the car without being able to personally drive it lol. I fell in love with the ti while driving to work; I used to drive Hwy 29 in Napa Co over the mountain twice a day. (For those not in the north bay, its a beautifully winding mountain road in excellent repair.)

BTW I'm almost certain I've seen Coyoteh driving around in Santa Rosa, the pics of his car are rather familiar.

Sadly, my headgasket went out in August, and my car has been down for the count since then. After much deliberation, we decided to just replace the engine with a used one, and work on rebuilding the original as time and money allow (assuming the head isn't cracked ) Thankfully my bf is very mechanically minded... and we discovered the org fairly soon after purchase. I personally make an excellent flashlight holder and tool monkey.

So we've gotten the new motor in, and... it won't freaking start. Well, it does, but once the rpms drop down to idle it cuts out. The code reader is saying it the knock sensor, so we're looking into that and also the air and fuel systems.

So close, yet so far away. So I come on here to ogle everyone else's cars.... errr...research! I mean research! yea...

So, any words of encouragement or ideas would be appreciated!

Hi Evie!

Perhaps you can ogle, er, research our cars at our next NorCal meet. I was in Novato a few weeks ago for brunch downtown.

So, if your BF needs a hand, perhaps you all can share a few more details as to what's currently going on.

Thanks for introducing yourself! Hope to see you when we all get together again. Cheers!

Welcome to the .org, Evie!

The problem does sound like a timing issue, air leak, or excessive fuel. Start with the knock sensor, and work your way backwards...

Hi there!

Not too many ti's here in Sonoma County, and I've only seen one other red sport package so it definitely could have been me! I'm driving somewhere around Santa Rosa almost every day.

I did see a red active sometime a while ago, maybe it was you?

Definitely check out our local meetups, we're currently planning another http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41304

Cool to have another local member, hope to see you around!

Sister And thanks

Work shall continue on my car, but mostly while I'm at work, so there wont be a thread on it. Also, I'm slightly embarrassed at the state of it, but a paint job is sooo far down on the list.. and boy does she need it! A few parts are on the way, fingers are crossed.

Thanks for the invite, but unless shes running we probably wont go, Vallejo is rather far to go in his Jeep. I might show back up on the Nor Cal boards about the meet.

Speaking of, this made me laugh and I just have to tell someone: he and his friend were on a trail run with a Jeep club and SANK the friends Jeep in the river yesterday. As in standing on the roof, feet in the water while standing on the roof --sank it. hahahahaha

I should say they're both fine, it was winched out, and it will run again. The motor isnt hydrolocked, and draining the Jeep is simple as they have (easily accessible) plugs in the floorboards. Also, oil and water dont mix, so they just pulled the oil plug and let the water flow out.

Guess thats what they get for saying they were bored during the run.
