Hey folks, just a quick hello from northern ireland. I am 26 years old, engaged to my beautiful fiance Kathy and have a 13 month old son Kyle! This is my 9th BMW and my 3rd Compact had a 318tds and now have 2 x 318ti's! The red m-sport was only bought on tuseday evening with 88500 miles on it and the black one has 133000 miles! I will try and get some better pic of both the cars this weekend as these are the only ones i have on the work pc.

Oh man a 318tds...I'd love to have one of those. Welcome to the site!
why?! in here 318tds its what we have most! they are diesel and slower cars with less power than the 318ti they only have 90 hp!!
the 318ti here are rare cars i think some people donīt even know them and think mine its a 318tds our 316i and get a surprise in the road behind me..

Torque. Plus, like Jonny said, new software and some other mods and they are tons of fun while still getting awesome fuel mileage. Add in the RWD and light weight of the compact, sounds like a great car to me.

and they never sold them here, so it's kinda cool having a car that no one else has

you know, I saw a really clean silver schnitzer 318tds up for sale when I got my ti but I really didn't consider the fact that it might be moddable into something a bit more decent. The factory 0-60 time is about 13 seconds iirc and while I am not a total speed freak I do like knowing I have the acceleration to join very fast-moving traffic (80mph+) from a near standstill off a very short sliproad, which is something you come across a lot in continental Europe. Otherwise getting onto the fast roads can be kinda nerveracking. 13 seconds is more like panel van performance.
I did a bit of research anyway but more on the user review websites and car trade forums and the consensus was that the TDS was one of the weakest diesels that BMW have ever made in terms of being underpowered even relative to the 316i Compact which wasn't exactly quick. They also implied that the mileage was actually pretty poor for an oil-burner; since it was underpowered people to tended to drive it much harder therefore economy suffers even further and that considering the relative higher price of diesel and the greater cost of servicing the diesel engine that the 318tds was a false economy...
...but then what is being said here would probably have made me approach the idea of a tds with a more open mind. The idea of a stylish diesel with good performance has always appealed, I've always fancied the e46 320d coupe.
Hey 318 pt you are corect in saying that they are 90hp, but with a simple remap and cat bypass mine made 130whp on the rolling road! In standard form they are quite slow but they have very very good fuel economy.
I will try and get more pics up of the red Ti mid week, just getting over swine flu at the min. Should be debadged and have the front kidneys done satin black also.
