Smile Starter/ Best repair manual for 318 Ti

Hello!

Nice to know that I have a place to learn and share experiences about my newly bought 1995 318Ti that suppose to need a new starter. Right now I'm stuck with the lower manifold. I have wiring loom thats in the way to take the whole lower manifold out. I bought the Bentley 3 series repair manual but its not really showing all the steps that I have to do to take all the connections out. Please advice and comments are welcome.

Thanks!
Bernie

Sounds like you're stuck with what we call The Squid. You have to remove all the cables; there are a mix of connectors and bolt on lugs. The best write-up is probably the "Coolant System Rebuild" (http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18066) post #3 it talks about the connections. Make sure to label them all, there are a couple blind ones in there.

As Biolite says.

I am currently doing this as well, slowly. Once you get the easy connections taken off I think that you can loosen the lower manifold where it sits to get at the harder connections. That is my plan anyhow, because it still looks like trouble getting at those starter connections. Others say to access the starter bolts from below.

Good luck, I'll be going after it again in a few days. I'd be interested in your results if you get to it before then.

Thanks! Biolite and Bradestar. The forum is great and with all the support I'm getting I am confident that I can tackle this beast of Squid again.

Thanks again!
