Just installed H&R sports & Bilstien sports. I’m also running SSR Comps 17X8+44 with 17X45X225 Hankook V12’s. The front looks fine but the rear camber looks a little too aggressive, I’m guessing it’s in the 2.5-3 range. I’ll be DD’n and some auto-X when the season starts. I must say, it corners very well but I’m also going to guess it’s going to eat up tires pretty fast as I do a lot of straight line driving and the toe is not good this low. I'm also not crazy about the dropped look in the rear. Looks very ricey, I'm not 21 years old anymore LOL! I do like the sleeper look though. Should I install rear springs pads to raise slightly? Maybe swap out the rear springs? They are H&R sports. Thanks in advance Build thread is here: http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=34614 I have everything installed below. From cooljess76: “Good call Dave, I didn't think about that. RCV7, if you're running the 2.8L Z3 medium case diff, the ti halfshafts will still be too long, you'll need to get 6cyl e30 halfshafts and output flanges, which will also require you to shim your ABS sensors(just a washer). So to clarify, use your current 2.8L Z3 subframe(same as 318ti subframe), 318ti trailing arms, 2.8L Z3 medium case LSD , e30 325i or 325is halfshafts and output flanges, pick up two washers with 5/8" centers at your local hardware store and shim your ABS sensors. Problem solved!” Hey, cooljess76: Is that John Tuturro bowling with a backwards baseball cap and why? Just curious Last edited by RCV7; 03-14-2012 at 10:42 PM. Toe is what really tears the tires up. You can get adjustment plates to get it back in line a little, there are also raised subframe bushings. I put the thickest spring pads (upper and lower) I could buy and then made 3/8" aluminum spacers to raise the back end of mine. Made the car much better. __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-13-2012, 04:00 AM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2008 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 1,464 | I have that exact suspension setup on my ti and while there was a slightly noticeable increase with negative camber, it really didn't look that bad and after about 8k miles on the suspension, I haven't noticed any abnormal wear on the tires. After lowering, the rear camber on mine came in at about -2*. The specified range for rear camber is -1.5* to -2.5*, so even if it is -2.5* to -3*ish, it's not that far out of range. I'm also running 17" wheels, so that might make a little difference. I'd have it put on an alignment rack just to see exactly where you are with the camber. | | | 01-13-2012, 04:17 AM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2011 Location: NJ USA Posts: 159 | Camber Thanks for the input. I'll post pics tomorrow so you can get a better look. Maybe you can compare mine to yours? The static camber wasn't too far out either. Toe was in a bit from spec. The issue that you run into is the camber and toe curve during compression and rebound. That's why you have to run lots of spring and damping on the E30 style rear suspension. Need to keep it from moving. __________________ No more ti. | | | 01-13-2012, 07:08 AM | #6 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | As truckster said, the tow really tears tires up quickly. Camber causes them to wear unevenly. The problem myself and most people have is the inability to rotate tires. Most low profile tires are directional, so the only rotation would be from front to rear and vice versa, unless you dismount tires from the rims and have them remounted and balanced. Ireland engineering makes a nice weld-in kit that allows you to adjust tow and camber. There's a couple variations of this kit, the e30 guys have been doing it for a while now. And yep, it's "Jesus" from The Big Lebowski. I corrected the toe with offset trailing arm bushings. They're called camber correction bushings, but there's no reason not to install them offset fore/aft to correct toe instead of up/down to correct camber. Anyway the final result is I corrected the toe, left the negative camber, and the car handled great and did not wear the rear tires any faster than the front. I think I'm about to do the same with the ti since the rear is toed out a little. | | | 01-17-2012, 12:33 PM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2007 Location: Elizabeth City, NC Posts: 3,877 | Stock rubber correction bushing should have a better time keeping the alignment because the rubber is able to twist when large forces are exerted on it. Whereas the urethane options are forced to rotate because it is a harder material. Obviously the rubber would just "un twist" where the urethane would be rotated into a new position. IE just came out with a new weld in adjuster design that now uses interlocking plates. Should be able to keep the alignment a lot better than the old design but it doesn't look as easily adjustable. __________________ ~Dave~ 98 328ti Morea Grun slicktop 11 128i space gray slicktop 13 JGC WK2 Deep Cherry Search | RealOEM | | | 01-17-2012, 03:19 PM | #9 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2011 Location: NJ USA Posts: 159 | Sorry, out of town Hey guys, Sorry for the delay. I decided to leave it alone as the tires don't seem to be wearing uneven. __________________ Happiness is not around the corner, it is the corner | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
