Default thinking about a custom obd2 tool

ok so i've been thinking about this for years. and i think i'm finally confident enough in my ability to build it (working on me BS in Computer Engineering).

What i'm thinking about is building an IN DASH (mounting under the AC unit) fully functional obd2 tool (intake flow, pressure, air/fuel ratio, emissions, etc). i wanna do a touchscreen, but i don't know that i can find one and make it cost efficient. but anyway. i am curious if anyone else on here is familiar with this stuff and would be willing to help, or if when the prototype is complete, maybe would people be interested in buying one? not sure what material costs would go like.

opinions?

Could you make it work with a PocketPC?

it would not be possible to change values. obd is just seeing the stats, and faults. the only thing i have thought of a way to change is the air/fuel ratio the ecu sees, and thus the fuel mixture. but that would involve running more wires. and i don't know how useful that would be.

to the pocket pc thing... i could probably make a cable and software to do that, but i am more interested in the in-dash solution right now.

so far the touch screen seems unrealistic. i think i'm gonna set it up like an oldschool mac machine, with the 4 buttons on either side for the menu. its gonna be a little bit before i order stuff to start development, i've got some other things to square away.

Sounds pretty cool, is the data format/pin out on the ODBII openly published then?
