Exclamation 318ti to a 323ti?

Hello,
I am in the process of researching potential engine swaps and wanted to ask everyone here if they would suggest a 323i engine for a swap. Keep in mind, I am a poor college student with big dreams for my ti, and an M3 swap is looking to be way too pricey for me. Would a 323 engine require as many modifications and swapped parts? I guess the bottom line is will a 323 engine be simpler to swap than a 325, 328, or 330?
Thanks for the support!
-Shawn

No. Same amount of work. And as the engine from a 323 is going to harder to find than an m52, it will probably cost more. M50 or m52 is the cheapest option for a swap right now.

If you can find a rear accident wrecked 328 you should be able to get most of the parts for less than 1500.

You'll need to change over the same things no matter what 6cyl you go to.

Personally, I wouldn't do all the work (or worse pay for all the labor) and only end up with a 323ti. I wish I had gone with a larger engine.

As far as performance goes, which 6cyl. engine would have the best balance of performance and gas mileage? Would buying a parts car reduce the price at all?
Thanks again for your help

Gas mileage and performance usually don't get along very well. Its all in how you set up the car to start. How hard you drive the car is also a huge factor. And most importantly, how much performance would you give up for gas mileage? Its all subjective, and since some of us have been poor college students, best thing to do is wait until the best opportunity presents itself.
