Pulled my steering column yesterday to rebuild it. Just waiting on my parts to arrive so I can put it back in all freshened up=)

I also finally sourced a master cylinder to use and have ordered all of the brake line that I need to plumb the rest of my brakes. I got bored at work today and shaved off all of the casting marks. I will be painting it to match my engine block when I get home.

Goodness Earl, I was going to be gone for a year, its been 8 months, but I was hoping to see a completed car!

Still polishing every nut and bolt as usual it seems.

I would be scared to sneeze in the general direction of the car if I ever saw it... goodness.

Well, I got four months before I am back in Cali to work on my own ti again. I will keep checking your thread and look forward to more progress!

Keep it up!

I pulled the fuel lines and rear brake line that ran up to the engine bay on Friday. I have decided to refresh all gas lines while I am at it. More on that later in this update.

Installed all of the new parts on the steering column Sunday:

Yesterday I pulled the gas tank....yes I have officially lost my mind

I will be cleaning the tank up, replacing all of the fuel lines, and cleaning up the underside of the car where the tank has been. I had a few fasteners snap under the car which has me quick frustrated. One of them was the stud for bolting the fuel filter to the car. I am trying to figure out how to remedy that situation currently. The other fasteners were the screws holding in the three mounts that ran the fuel and brake lines forward. Those will also be tricky to sort out.

I think many of us realized that long time ago. The first step toward recovery is admitting to your self you have a problem.

That being said keep your mind away for a while, I think we all enjoy the insane detail going to this build.

Still waiting on the rest of the column parts to arrive so I can put it back in.

The gas tank is cleaned and ready to be put back together. I need to order all of the lines and gaskets yet. I also need to clean up under the car and undercoat that section.

Before

After

Been working on little things the past two days.

I "rebuilt" the throttle pedal assembly. Everything is brand new besides the lever itself. My old pedal return spring was snapped and not doing anything. I don't recall the pedal ever feeling bad so I was surprised to see that.

Old

New

I also got pads for the brake and clutch pedals

The steering column is also back in the car now. I placed an order for the fuel lines above the tank and need to start wire wheeling and undercoating the tank area under the car.

I have been really busy planning a GTG and what not lately but figured I would post some pictures of a few things to keep things lively in here

If you can't buy it, make it (new one is stainless)

I cleaned and painted the rear bumper carrier as well as the mounting brackets (and installed OEM hardware)

Finally scored a missing piece of the puzzle:

Racing Dynamics Non M lip

Unfortunately I wasn unaware that the lip is slightly different between the two non M bumper styles so I will have to make some reliefs in the top of the lip to fit around parts of the bumper vents. The good thing is that the lip isn't perfect and needs some fixing anyways.

You can see the small semi-circle reliefs now that are for fitting around the vertical slats in the wide slat style non m bumper. Those will be filled in as well.

Now that looks good! Nice see a little different style then the usual m3 bumper.

Is the rear going to be a M bumper? Also what kind of mirrors will you use?

Love the work as usual. I will say this every time I post, but that detail you have is insane. I honestly don't think I would be able to drive it after having every piece so meticulously cleaned and replaced.

My rear bumper is the stock bumper with the exhaust cutout and tow hook cover shaved. It's been pictures a few times. Mirror wise I have my AC Schnitzer cup mirrors that have been on the car=)

Love you work. As usual can't wait to see the completed work!
