Default Ti weigh-in

Hey all,
I haven't checked in lately...busy with work and sorting the car out. I've been anxious to get the car on my scales (Intercomp EZ scales) to see the damage after swapping in the S50. Here's the rundown:

May '07
Stock-ish suspension, hatch gutted, stock 16's, 1/2 tank fuel, M44; relatively "stock"
weight: 2745 lbs.

March '08
Rear seat out, Recaro PP driver's seat, Sparco Competition 345 steering wheel w/o airbag, sunroof apparatus removed, 17" DS II wheels, GC coilovers, S50B30 power, AC fully removed, ltw headers & flywheel, no cats or resonators, Ansa 325 muffler, 1/2 tank fuel
weight: 2674 lbs

So I'm thinking with another Recaro on the passenger side, ltw battery, stereo removal, and re-weigh with my lighter Team Dynamics 17x8, I could be well into the 2500 lb range. Considering this thing is putting down about 260 to the wheel, it's quite a ride.
Almost forgot; I gotta pick up an E36 sedan roll bar...crap. So add ~70 lbs for that in the end.

No real point for this post, just checkin' in I guess.

Oh...I have a track day at MAM in Iowa next weekend; I'll see if I can get some in-car footage

Do you know how much each item (rear seat removal, recaro seat, steering wheel, etc.) saved you. I am thinking about removing some weight and wanted to know which options are most worthwhile. Your car must be a blast to drive, looking forward to the incar footage!

Thanks, man...the car is quite the handful. I can't guarantee any in-car footage, it all depends if I can ghetto-cobble a camera mount this week.

The rear seat (plus belts, brackets, whatnot) I'm guessing is around 30lbs total, the recaro is 22 lbs with brackets and slider (stocker is around 60 lbs), sunroof was about 30 lbs, steering wheel swap and airbag may have gotten me 5 lbs (airbags are HEAVY). I'm thinking the areas most overweight are the front seats, battery, exhaust.

I'm going to be having a garage sale pretty quick...lots of parts to go, including;
Eibach aluminum strut tower bar
E36 325 instrument cluster w/126k miles
E36 318ti instrument cluster w/189k miles
E36 M3 3" maf sensor
E36 M3 OBD-I fuel injectors 17lb/hr

I know there's more, I'll round it all up and make a thread soon. No calling dibs in this thread, please!

I happened to find this light battery thread while looking for a battery for my bike (same battery!) Maybe it'll help you choose.

Thanks, Blue. I'm also wondering the overall weight change for an S50/52 swap. And I've heard those weights disputed and taken from different sources. Surprised no one has weighed their motors before and after install!

Either way, both engines are freaking heavy. My old honda engine, 1.5 SOHC weighed in around 120lbs, you could just lift the bastard and put it where you wanted. These bimmer engines are no joke to lug around, even the m44. Wouldve loved to grab a 2.8 with the alloy block which only weighs 260lbs compared to the m44 and iron blocked 6cyls.

I'm hoping I'm under 2500 right now, with another 150# to lose.

I'm in the same boat of needing a roll bar, so that will add some of that weight back in. But still hoping to end up around 2400-2500 or so with fuel and me in it.

I've seen a 318is that was about 200# lighter than that even. So if you want to remove glass for lexan you can get even lighter.

I don't think it would save that much weight. Just replace the glass with lexan. It will be much cheaper. The weight is in the glass.

I say get a second racing seat for the passenger side, IMO, it looks weird when you have 1 racing seat and 1 stock seat

Yeah, and if you don't need an FIA approved seat you can go with the Corbeau seats. The FX1 weighs in at like 16 pounds. With brackets and mounts maybe 20 pounds total. Stock seats weigh a lot more than that...

Also have to factor in that harnesses weigh a lot less than the seatbelts. So if you can totally remove the stock seatbelts that is a pretty good weight savings.

I got about 35 pounds of sound deadening off of the floor.
