I recently Went to My local BMW grave yard to pick up some goodies for my ti and asked a few questions.... This particular Establishment has dozens of 325, 328, and z3's I inquired as to how much I would expect to pay for a 328 Engine, manual tranny, computer and driveshaft with under 150k on the engine/tranny. the price $2100 is that a great deal or what, it seems to me that most of the 328 engines sell for more | | | 09-20-2006, 04:19 AM | #2 | Junior Member Join Date: May 2006 Location: Georgia Posts: 14 | Well I think its a great deal.................. since I am replacing the transmission do I really need to change the differential? any help would be greatly appreciated. I know nothing about transmissions or differentials. | | | 09-20-2006, 07:13 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | well if your is auto tranny now you have a samll case 4.44 diff, if is manual you have a open or maybee lsd 3.45, the secon one work fine for you, but is better swap for a E30 large case diff. with lower ratio , like 3.23 oe close, because you have more porwer tahnks to the six engine __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 09-20-2006, 08:52 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Nov 2004 Location: Lincoln Park Capitol Hill, Washington DC Posts: 741 | Unfortunately with swapping, there are a lot of hidden costs: Different suspension, due to weight Different tranny and diff. due to power and torque Different exhaust, this one is custom because of length New Half axles Brake upgrades 6 Cyl. gauge Cluster The list goes on and on....... DASC sounds a lot better for the money, eventhough I prefer gutting out the bottom end. __________________ It's always a great day to be underwater and play with the fish.....preserve our oceans and reefs" Fariz 1997 318ti, Hellrot (Bright Red), Dinan Stage 2 Chip 16x7 OEM sport Wheels/X-Brace/Custom Strut Brace/Cold Air Intake/M-Tec Steering Wheel/Koni Adjustable FrontShocks/ Bilstein Sport Rear Shocks /H&R Sport Springs/Custom fabricated strut tower brace/Rear Strut brace, Stromung Exhaust Future Mods: E46 17" wheels or Kosei K-1 17x8.5s | | | 09-21-2006, 04:52 PM | #5 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | Quote: Originally Posted by m3outtanowhere I USED to be able to understand him^ | Sorry man, i know my english is not perfect, i'm from Puerto Rico, also i only use the english on this site, but i work on it every day, i like to help people and like this site because the people are very friendly, also the day that i wrote those message i'm in tho office with my shief very close so y wrote the fast i can do, so, sorry if you not understand me, the next time only tell me with a PM please __________________ BMW...MY NEW TOY Mods: Some plastic parts, ///M Wheels and me | | | 09-21-2006, 07:42 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2006 Location: Southern California Posts: 456 | check. sorry __________________ SPEED IS NOT AN EQUATION CONSISTING OF DISTANCE DIVIDED BY TIME. I know about the suspension, gauge cluster, tansmission (although I've heard some people use the stock?) fuel delivery, and drive shalft. if someone knows what I need or a link to a good complete list I would be eternaly greatful. I know about the DASC but I want something a little harder to find ( I like a challange ) Eventually after the swap I would like to turbo the 2.8! | | | 09-22-2006, 12:06 AM | #8 | Senior Member Join Date: Mar 2005 Location: Portland Or Posts: 2,666 | Bottom line is that if you want it to work you need the knowlege learned by researching all the parts. A list might get you started but in the end makeing all come out is you. Basicly you need the whole car (Wrecked or whatever thats going to donate its parts.) for the easiest result. Then you scrap whats left. Either part it or ebay it or whatever. That depends on your goal, Do you want a hotrodded 318ti or a M3 conversion ti, its not the same question... And to be honest, your typed english on these boards is far superior than what I've seen pass for written language on other car sites. I can definately see an improvement from your early posts to now. But they were never so cryptic that you couldn't figure it out. I dont know what kind of person you'd have to be moraly, to make fun of an outsiders attempt to speak your language. Anywho, keep up the good english, your a quick learner! __________________ My next car will be a 335D...I swear | | | 09-22-2006, 09:42 PM | #10 | Senior Member Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: Puerto Rico Posts: 885 | Hey man tanks for the words, i'm cool person but the problem is that i can't speak here like in spanish i feel like a robot, you know....
