Default need help identifying a part

I noticed today that something seemed missing from my 95' M42 motor. I checked around the web and it appears that the picture below has the missing part, which I've circled in red. My car started to lose power but it wasn't overheating this time. I had it towed to a shop.

Can somebody help with identifying this part? I checked reaoem but had no luck so far. After a while all those images start to look the same if you don't know what you're looking for.

I have a higher resolution pic and it has some tube on the bottom of it though. Kinda like a plastic covered wire almost. I guess I can't even be certain that the picture I got from the web is of an M42.

So now both of my Bimmers are in the shop. I pick up the rental tomorrow I hope it isn't a Yaris again this time.

Thanks!

Here is that part close up. Does that cord looking thing to the right attach to it? Should I be worried?

I believe that black bracket (red circle pic) is a support from the head to the intake manifold and the hole is a lifting point when removing/installing the motor. Under that bracket is your head temp sendor screwed into the cylinder head with wire connector leading to the DME, gauge or both.

Hope this helps

Yes the M44 got picked up yesterday. Oh my poor babies. I hope to get them both fixed up soon. I rented a Nissan Versa for the time being. Not a bad car!
