Default intake boot replacement maintenance

This may be a well-worn path for some, but I was shocked to see how bad these rubber pieces actually were when I replaced them. The car has 175k, but these cracks have been here for a while I'm sure.

Anyway, just wanted to send a note for you guys to check on these rubber intake pieces. I have some motorcycle intake boots that have been around since the 80 that aren't cracked, so these are not very robust.

Also, physically remove the boot to inspect it. Mine had what looked like superficial cracks, but upon removal it was apparent the problem was quite a bit worse.

This is probably the No.1 culprit for misfires and rough idle problems. Second would likely be a clogged CCV and third, oil in the plug wells. And I agree on removing it to inspect it. It's difficult to see underneath it and inbetween the creases. Another method is to spray brake cleaner(not carb cleaner) on and around this boot while the engine is idling. If you hear the engine rev up, you have a leak and this boot is likely suspect.

did you have trouble getting yours to fit? I bought one for my car and I couldn't get it to fit right, pretty disappointing considering how expensive it is

heheh I had no problems making it fit in the hole

what I did first was place in a warm (not boiling) bowl of water, after a little while take it out and it will be loose (LOL) and slide it on the Throttle body...

on a side note.. that was a lot of sexual jokes in there lol
