Rockauto had the kits for 7 bucks each. | I was originally going to get them from Pelican, since their ground shipping is essentially overnight to my place (I honestly live about 15 miles from their So. Cal. warehouse), but since it was a special order item for them, I couldn't afford the time it would have taken since I need these by Wednesday. My local BMW dealer will have them for me tomorrow. My poor planning cost me an extra $35. I thought about just holding out and doing the rear brakes some other weekend, but since I am going to have the entire suspension and most of the brake system out of the car this weekend, I really didn't feel like spending the better part of some other day working on the car for $35. C'est la vie. The crack was so small, you couldn't even see coolant leaking because it would evaporate as soon as it reached the atmosphere. Eventually, I'd lost enough coolant to cause vapor lock. It happened right after I bought the car and was driving it home from Michigan to Cali. That's when I learned how to bleed the system. I ended up driving the car like that for several thousand miles, filling and bleeding the radiator daily until it got so bad I was adding a gallon of water a day, lol. Never once did I ever let it overheat though, the very first time I caught it at the 3/4 mark and shut her down. If I were you, I'd pressure test the radiator/cooling system. You can rig up a fitting to a bicycle pump and a cap that will fit the expansion tank. Pump it up to about 5psi(don't go much higher than that, the radiator cap is designed to relieve @ about 15 psi). It helps if you do this in a quiet garage. Listen for hissing and hopefully you'll find your leak. If you suspect a blown headgasket, the only way to know for sure is to do a cylinder leakdown test. Autozone sells a leakdown kit for about 30 or 40 bucks. | | | | | Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread: 1 (0 members and 1 guests) | | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | |
