Default Engine and Tranny for Sale in Ohio

Transplanting a 2.5L intercooled turbodiesel in place of the stock gasser. Original 1.8L gas engine and 5 speed tranny all crated up and ready to go to a new home. Both currently at Koala Motorsport in Newbury, Ohio. (They're the dudes who do Quaife and other specially built diffs plus a lot of racing work — advertise in Roundel Magazine). Engine and tranny ran like a sewing machine when pulled. Koala guys can vouch for it. $375 takes 'em both. Hey, ya never know when you're gonna need a spare and at this price, ya don't have to go without. Questions? 440-339-4349 or ray@burningriverfuels.com

Are you converting to diesel to run your ti on biodiesel or vegatable oil? That is sweet. I am very interested in your project. Is Koala doing the conversion for you? Where did you get the diesel engine? How much is such a diesel engine? What could I expect to pay to get a conversion like yours? Please tell us more.

I am a former VW TDI owner. I have always loved turbo diesel power. The VW was only 90hp but had 210lbs of torque.

Would you mind answering a couple questions for me:

Is there a turbo diesel available for the BMW in the US?

Is the 2.5 diesel a converted a gas engine?

How much torque does the diesel make? And how much HP?

I am really interested in having a diesel in a TI.

If I can get 125HP and 250lbs of torque out of a 2.5 turbo diesel at a reasonable price I want to do it.

The plan is to create a 325tdi, yes. The first phase is to take the 318ti from gasser to diesel. The next phase will see it go from petroleum diesel to straight vegetable oil fueling. That work will be done by a local buddy, but not Brett at Koala. Not that Brett couldn't do the veg oil modifications. It's just he has lots of other projects begging for his time. This is not biodiesel (chemically changed veg oil) we'll be using, but used fryer oil that has been filtered, then heated by on-board heat exchangers (both coolant and electric) to achieve acceptable viscosity to fire through the injection pump and injectors.

This will be my 3rd diesel fueled by vegetable oil. My second, and still going strong, is a 1985 324td. It's an E30 with the M21 diesel powerplant from the 1985-86 BMW 524td.

Yeah, I had a 1996 VW Passat TDI and my ex-wife has a 2001 VW Golf TDI. Nice powerplant.

The 2.5L diesel going into this project car has a stock rating of 143 hp and 192 lb./ft. of torque. I'm adding a van Aaken Smartbox™ to bump it slightly to 167 hp and 234 lb./ft. of torque. Not M3 territory, but frisky enough to keep me from getting bored.
