Default BMW key blanks. pre-98' 3,5,7,8 series. $6.50shipped

Well, ended up with 7 spare blanks.

These fit:
92'-98' 3-series
88'-96' 5-series
88'-96' 7-series
90'-95' 8 series BMW's

Just had one cut for my TI, cost me about $40 at a local locksmith. MUCH cheaper than the dealership I'm sure. They aren't the prettiest looking, but are perfect if you need another spare cheap. Will post up a pic later tonight if needed.

Looking to get $6.50 shipped to your door each. Can possibly do discounts on more, depending on the interest, will be posted on bimmerforums as well. Going for around $10 each on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-N...m290233944703&

***FYI, there IS a chance your car has a transponder in the key, and these will do nothing if your car is equipped with this security system. Mine did not have it, I suggest looking up your car to see if it does. I don't want anyone to feel cheated. Not my fault if it doesn't work, I made you aware

As far as I know ALL 318ti's have an EWS chip inside the key. My '97 and '95 both have chips in the keys. I've opened them and verified it. This is still a good deal on the key blanks though. Can you open them to install a chip or is it molded together?

This may be a very noobish question, but why would it cost $40 to get a key cut?

I would just go to the dealer and pay the $65 with the chip. But still a good deal for blanks.

They are not like regular keys... compare your BMW key to a normal key, they can't be cut in the same way.

Hmm, interesting. I just had one made, and it worked just fine. Maybe mine was disabled somehow during the engine swap, I dunno. All I know is it started the car fine I doubt you can open them up, but i'll look. Got to get to bed asap, so pics will come tomorrow or Sat.

Had no idea they were only $65 at the dealer. I know my parents spent like $75-80 on their spare Z3 key, and on a 98 saab it cost them like $100 a key.

And like Philly said, if you look at your key, it's VERY different than a normal key. The machine the guy used actually takes a laser image of the key, detects worn down sections, and makes it back to factory. Pretty cool.

I just had a spare made at the dealer not long ago. Think it cost around 60. Five bucks more would have gotten the lit key, but i like to minimize bulk.

mine is a 95 also, I'm not sure if I have EWS or not but I do have a chip in my key so I'm assuming I do, mine is pretty optioned up though so that might make a difference

95s with the 282 DME have EWS protection. But it is different than in the 96+ cars. The DME is not coded to the EWS and key, just the key and EWS are tied together. If the DME gets the code it is expecting from the EWS unit, the car will start...

This is why you can chip a 95 without doing an EWS alignment, atleast with the turner chip you can.

New key costs a little over 50$ from my local dealer with BMWCCA discount. And that is the flashlight key.
