Default 2 Possible ti's

I need to move into something cheap, yet still fun / trackable (currently in 05 RSX-S). I'm not having much luck finding good 328is or 328i examples, so I saw a couple of ti's I might be interested in.

I believe they're both 95s, even though the white one says 96. Would offering in the $2k - $2500 range be super low ball on these?

white - http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

red - http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true

The white one looks real clean, I'm hoping to check it out today, but I do think it's a 95 (unless I'm mistaken about 96+ having painted side skirts / lips).

Anything to look out for besides worn suspension parts? Leaks from any common areas? I'm hoping the 95s take better to mods like I've been reading, I don't know how long I could take a 16 second quarter mile car.

well base 96 models didnt have the skirts painted so if may very well be a 96

easiest way to tell is if it has a central locking button on the inside next to the window switches (then its a 96)

oh and sorry for the second post i went back and noticed the red one is a sport so it will have sport suspension and sport seats.

i would go for the red one since i hate the non sport seats and it may have 30,000 more miles but it also has the things you would want more since you want to track it.
also i love red.

the 96 isnt going to accept chips like the 95 will and to do a tune to the 96 you will have to send your ecu to get it tuned.

red>white

also check for windows working.

look for some rust at the sway bar mounts and inner fenderwells

EDIT:

i doubt you will be able to get them to cut their price in half. both those cars are worth about 4000

Thanks for the input. I love white, but the interior color on the one I posted drives me crazy (same reason I didn't get a white RSX, stupid no black option). I'm not too thrilled about having a red car, but I do like the interior better and it doesn't look half bad on these cars.

I'll be checking it out tonight, thanks again.

Don't believe that the red one is a sport, it doesn't have the sport bumpers, wheels, side pieces of the sport, but it does have the sport seats. Notice in the pictures, that it doesn't have the central locking button either. Still it looks good in the photos.

Only ClubSports came with the Mtechnik bodykits and suspension in '95. The sports came with sport interiors.

the 95 is most deff a sport it just lacks the body kit pieces since its not a club sport.
it will have the sport suspension and seats thats about it.

also the white one is for sure a 96 in one of the pictures you can see the central locking button

I don't think you'll pick it up for an offer that low, but I suppose you could try.

Go with the sport! Like Josh said, you'll be happy you did once all is said and done. Check ball joints/windows and cooling system parts. Poke around the knowledge base to get a feel for working on the vehicle.

And have fun going from a k20 to a m42

Yeah, I figure the ball joints / control arms and cooling are the things to go first, didn't know about the windows though and supposedly falling headliner.

That's the one thing that is keeping me apprehensive. I guess I'll find out how much of a difference it'll be once I drive the car, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and I can always pick up another RSX later.

dont worry to much about the power of these cars. just wait til you take a corner at a higher speed than posted.....

thats when you will forget about that lack of power compared to the rsx

My vote is for the white 96. It's obviously a base model, but from the looks of the interior, it's been better cared for, the mileage is lower, and the seats, (even tho' they aren't sport seats) are in WAY better condition.
The driver's seat in the red 95 looks pretty beat up from the pictures, anyway.

The 96 looks like somebody took good care of it, didn't abuse it. It's in (visually) good shape.
You could probably get the red one for less, but like thesk8nmidget said, they are worth at least $4,000, and the 96 is probably not gonna come down much from where they have it. Maybe $500 if you offer cash on the spot.
