Default power steering problem

Hi there I am wondering if anyone has had problems with their power steering. The power steering on my 95 ti seems to stop working for a few minutes then goes back to normal. Then a few days ago when it stop working for over a day then sudenly started to work again. There is always a weird creaking sound that sounds like it is coming from the steering column before the power steering fails.

Thanks for any help

what have you tried so far?

i'm thinking a good flush is the first place to start if it hasn't been done already.

My guess is that you are low on power steering fluid. Check the level of it the reservoir is below the airbox to the left. You have to remove the top part of the airbox to get at it. By removing i mean just undo the four clips that hold it down and move to the side. You could also have a leak in the hose which is why it could be low.

I only had it go out once real quick around a corner (not fun), it makes more of a grinding sound than a creeking sound though.

Well this could be very serious if it lets go,not a cheap fix. Go to the local parts shop buy ATF Dextron 3 only,it does not take regular power steering fluid. 5-10 minutes of looking into could save you some big $$

Yeah do it up. I jsut bought a new resevoir and hose (hose from resevoir->steering pump) and 2 qts of fluid for less than $30. Flushed the system and runs much smoother now. Course the new fluid looks like red gatorade and the old fluid looked like mud.

Thanks for the help I thought it was the pump or a valve in the steering rack which wouldnt have been cheap.
