I searched for a 3rd brake light LED mod but didn't see anyone who has posted one up. If anyone has one lets hear about it. Is there an option to switch out the bulbs for an LED option and would that be any good? From some of the reading sounds like the LED's may not be as bright or throw out as much light, I've never experimented with LED for replacing the incandescent bulbs for the brake/tail lights?? Looks easy, from this picture the bulbs come out of the top of the red plastic lens and the replacement bulbs would be the no. 194 bulbs (or which ever equivalent fit in those black 1/4 turn caps). Thinking the red bulbs wold rejuvenate the faded red lens a little. Thinking these may fit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAIR-68x-SMD...8266ec&vxp=mtr or these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Red-MEGA...8ae32b&vxp=mtr __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. I would have to disagree about the brightness, though. Output will vary by level of intensity the bulb/unit provides. I don't know why you would want something super bright anyways for brake lights. __________________ | | | 02-09-2013, 07:37 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | Not really looking for super bright, don't want to blind anybody . But, just want something at least as good as incandescent in this case, just don't know what a good equivalent is since I've never messed with the LED replacements at all. __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles. Even modified the plug to work. Looks oem and is very bright! | | | 02-11-2013, 12:27 PM | #6 | Senior Member Join Date: Apr 2009 Location: Merritt Island, FL Posts: 351 | Quote: Originally Posted by jiggerjosh I did it with a third brake light from an e93. You can use T10 Wedge bulb style LED, go to your local vatozone (autozone) and purchase a can of red VHT night shade and hit the plastic with some paint (prep of course) and reinstall it. You should be good to go!. Here is the paint. http://www.vhtpaint.com/products/niteshadesred/ __________________ V2 in progress. I'll give it a shot and maybe put up some pictures when I get around to doing this. I bought 4 of the 6 LED's that I need to change out the bulbs from AutoZone too. __________________ Alpine Weiß 1995 318ti M50tu mostly stock, chip'd 413, AFE Intake. e36 M3 front brakes, e30 M3 rear calipers. e28 3.25 LSD + e30 axles.
