I used a 5 minute epoxy last month and it already pulled out in less than a month. Thanks. | | | 08-01-2010, 08:47 PM | #2 | Senior Member Join Date: Feb 2009 Location: rockford illinois Posts: 127 | Have you tried Rear view mirror glue? Maybe try cyanoacrylate from a local hobby store, thin viscosity will work best but can get messy if you are careless. | | | 08-01-2010, 10:29 PM | #3 | Senior Member Join Date: Sep 2007 Location: asdfasdf Posts: 10,002 | maybe the adhesive for windshields? I figure it's probably good at creating a strong bond between metal and glass, not sure where you'd get it though | | | 08-01-2010, 11:30 PM | #4 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Ok, I'll try the cynoacrylate "super glue" and see how long it holds up. Viscosity is everything. Standard "super glue" is a "ultra thick" viscosity. That is why it is not a good contender for very smooth applications. Trust me on this one my family has owned a hobby shop for my entire life. | | | 08-02-2010, 02:05 AM | #7 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Quote: Originally Posted by cooljess76 Dow BetaSeal or 3M Windo-Weld. | Where can you get this type of glue? Trust me on this one my family has owned a hobby shop for my entire life. | We don't have a hobby shop nearby. I am going to Atlanta this coming Friday and I should be able to find one and since the car is in Atlanta, it is perfect. So I need to find one that is less viscous and more free flowing than superglue. Thanks. | | | 08-02-2010, 02:28 AM | #9 | Moderator Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Bouncing off the rev limiter in CT! Clean the glass several times with Acetone. Use a clean white wiper and clean it until the wiper stays white. Very important step! Then you need to clean the aluminum. The best thing is to grit blast it with fine grit (not glass beads). It will oxidize immediately; however the surface profile will allow it to bond mechanically. Otherwise, polish the aluminum to a bright mirror lustre. Once it looks like a mirror, clean it several times with Acetone, like the glass (until the wiper stays clean) to remove all the polishing agents and then apply the adhesive per the instructions. THAT should last a while! | | | 08-02-2010, 02:31 AM | #10 | NOBODY F's with the Jesus Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: Ventura California Posts: 7,824 | Quote: Originally Posted by bazar01 Where can you get this type of glue? I had a really difficult time tracking it down, I ended up buying a tube of BetaSeal from my local body shop for 25 bucks, then a couple months later my neighbor gave me a couple of tubes of 3M Windo-Weld. They're basically the same thing, just one is made by Dow and the other is made by 3M. | | | 08-06-2010, 11:30 PM | #11 | Senior Member Join Date: Aug 2009 Location: Georgia Posts: 595 | Just got the chance to remove the door panel and to see what was wrong with the glass window, The glass was sitting in the bottom of the door. It's fixed now.
