Default removing ignition lock cylinder, small pin doesnt work??

Hi, I've been trying for a few hours to get my ignition lock cylinder out of two different 1998 cars (ti and M3). I took the ring antenna off and I can stick a pin/wire/paper clip/allen wrench in pretty far (about an inch and a quarter) into the little hole in accessory position. However, when I do that, I don't hear or feel anything releasing and I can't get the cylinder out.

I'm using the right size tool (and I've tried all sizes, too).

I feel like there's something different with 1998 lock cylinders because in all the photos I've seen of people taking theirs out, the little hole is 90 degrees away from the axis of the key, while the hole on my locks is like 30 degrees away.

Any ideas? someone must have done this before!

Thanks.

All i know is that when i had it done by a pro he said somtimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes an hour...like mine LOL. You're probably doing it right but have you looked at a bentley manual?
