Default Using high amp ALT on 318

Is it possible to use a higher amp alternator on my 318 M44. Currently I have a 80 amp and I've added a lot of amp drawing devises like 12.6 amps in intercooling fans, 6.8 amps for a turbo oil pump, my Pioneer N3 has 2 large amps driving 10 speakers, lots of digital gauges, logging devises with 2 additional wide-band O2's, etc.

Obviously I'm drawing a lot more amps then the factory intended so my question is will a high amp alternator fit our M44. Like the 120 & 140amp?

Thanks, John Smith

I've seen 120 amp alternators at some auto parts stores, as long as you upgrade the wires you should be fine

Convertibles use 120 amp alternators. The wires should be good enough to handle it. They're pretty heavy gauge all the way back to the junction box.

Thanks, I think I will go with a 120 now that I have turbo oil pumps and multiple amps and stuff running...

Wiring should be fine a jess said, I believe they use the same gauges wire on the regular e36 harness which is spec'd for a 120a alt.
