I will answer this for you. There should be no change in idle since your DME adapts for the best AFR or Lambda during normal driving. The ruff idle is caused by increasing overlap in the camshafts (when both intake and exhaust vales are open at the same time to cause a scavenging effect). Degree your camshafts with lots of overlap and you get more high end power while suffering a lose of low end torque.

Anyways simple answer to your question is no Barrie's tune will not cause a ruff idle.

Best, John Smith

Nothing in the idle mapping is changed unless you specifically need me to change it for mods but other then that no you will not get a rough idle. Cheers

Thanks to you and John for your answers. Just one more question, and I'll shut up: Why didn't BMW tune ti's to get the extra hp and torque that your tune wrings out of the engine? Any thoughts? Thanks, John A.

There are many answers to this question as they are leaving room for real world problems. Bad fuel, Hardware problems, Lower octane, People who don't maintain a engine correctly, warranty's. Not willing to spend much time tuning for peak hp. Different engine loads due to tire size change.

This is why you must run the designated octane per the tune or you risk detonation and popping the head gasket. everything in my tune is calculated for more HP and Reliability as long as you run the proper Octane. all the best

I just got my chip, 93 cot stage 2 from midnight, no idle issues. Car has no rear in it at the moment, as soon as the rear running gear is back in I will report.

Anybody here running the m44 tune? Do you get roughly the same gains as the m42? I would think the obd2 stuff in the m44 ecu's would be a little more restrictive.

I've been running the M44 tune since June 2011. I've put 35k miles on the car in that time and had absolutely no issues related to the dme. I never had the car dyno'd but I remember feeling a nice bump in midrange power. It was definitely a noticeable difference.

They are about the same in increase and they both suffer from the 4000rpm dead spot where the DISA starts moving and this is also cleaned up in the OBD1 and OBD2 tunes. Cheers

haha the only problem with my tunes is eventually you will want more power in the form of a turbo or supercharger. I can help you with that too thanks for the good feedback though

What kind of power gains are we talking here? Surely there had to have been baseline dyno results posted? I didn't think there was much power to be had out of tuning n/a vehicles
