Default 97 318ti timing chain or belt?

Just bought a '97 with 107K miles and im instantly hooked on it. But I'm trying to make sure everything is up to speed on it. I know there was an earlier threat about timing chain on a 96, but i know the engine was slightly changed going into 97, so im curious if the timing belt/chain situation has changed... Thanks guys.

Chain, no belt. Belts died with the E30, and many E30s died because of their belts.

Yes, it is an interference design.
