Default New to BMW. Should I buy?!

Friends younger cousin is selling 1999 318ti has a rebuilt motor. It's an automatic and has a p0734 code. 4th gear ratio incorrect so possibility transmission is toast. Wants $600 should I buy?? Thanks in advance.

Worst case, you'll need a new transmission. Are you willing to tackle that job yourself? Because if not, then the cost of a transmission job plus $600 will exceed the cost of a TI in running condition.

Keep in mind, I know jack **** about automatics. For all I know, there's a Magic Fix It Button on the transmission that will take care of all your mechanical problems, then serve you coffee and strudel.

Thanks for the reply. I do intend to fix what I can myself. I'm also use to manuals but not BMWs. Just wondering if i'm going to end up putting in more then it's worth running.

Only a relative few 99's were built and all came to the U.S. as sport models, a plus. If the body, interior and engine all seem sound, $600 is a good deal. If you buy it, change the transmission fluid and filter first and see what happens. John

Thanks John, yes I intend to change that first. Just found out the oil pan gasket is leaking. Researched and found out it a PITA to replace.
