Default buying 2.8 tommo

Soon Ill be joining the ranks of swapped Ti's...

Im buying a 2.8L tommorrow and I hope to start the swap within a month or so..

the engine ...
from a 1997, 150000km's
it has all parts still connected, ie: ac comp, starter, ps pump, motor mounts etc etc ... its so complete he says the clutch is even still attached (no tranny tho))
also getting the ECU and wiring harness, rad fan, plastic trims

$700 for everything

I plan to swap my 3.46 open for a 3.25 LSD as well... and eventually do the brakes.

I know the swap is pretty straight forward, although i plan on buying Jims manual cause im sure ill get stuck somewhere...

but for clarification, I will have no problem using my tranny from my Ti with the 2.8, correct?
It does have a basically new M3 clutch, ltw flywheel, M3 slave already installed

and ive read alot of threads on here, but im still an amatuer, so whats something i might easily forget or may overlooked until after ive already dove into this swap.... i want to be %100 prepared before I make the leap.

100% prepared is probably a stretch. Your bound to break something along the way.

Like most, I have my S52 hooked through a M3 clutch into the Getrag trans (Stock TI). I haven't heard of anyone breaking it yet.

Good Luck.

thanks alaska!

and good to know compaiar... I know Im bound to break something, but I don't want it to be anything major though, nuts and bolts - no problem... is there anything i should be prepared for?

and another question, I already have a basically new Bilstien suspension setup up front, will I have to reinforce anything up front for the little bit of extra weight, or should i not be concerned with that?

anyways, im on my way into the city right now to have a look at it and put a 90% deposit down until i can go pick it up! wish me luck!

Good luck with the swap. Dont worry about the suspension if its decently fresh. Mine is no where near fresh right now and i dont have problems with it, so youll be fine.

the whole thing will be summarized with pics

me and a buddy are going to tackle it, he is way more auto savvy than i am when it comes to this stuff... afterall he is an audi parts manager. I need to be told what to do step-by-step... or maybe ill just do the beer runs lol

question for people who have done this or similar swap...
I went in today to give him a down payment til im ready to pick it up, and he gave me the ECU and immobilizer (...switch?) ... anyways, he also still had the key... since i virtually no next to nothing, he was telling me i won't have to re-map/program for my old key, if I use this immobilzer and the key he gave me, but i didn't quite understand him...
EDIT : after reading threads i think i understand... its the EWS... ill take pics of it tommorrow for clarification.

also, can I use the same radiator as im using now?

Im such a n00b :P

so this is what ive got so far...

the complete motor out of a 1997 with all accessories
complete wiring harness
ECU
EWS + key
headers

parts/plans :
new motor mounts
cluster
debating putting battery in the rear
3.xx diff, still not sure what ratio i should go with.. any suggestions?
exhaust, not sure what im going to do with that yet... any suggestions?
and eventually, a 32x front brake conversion, which leads me to my next question...

how important is it to do the brakes right off the bat?
I have near new everything for my brakes... rotors, pads, a new caliper in the front too... can i survive with this setup for a couple months?

and the cooling system, can i re-use my radiator and all the hoses?

and if anyone can chime in and tell me if i missed anything im definitly going to need?

Im going to end up reading all night about this haha and soon buying Jims manual, but i don't get paid til next week and im curious and trying to figure out what to budget for before i get to the point that i need something and don't have it/can't get it for days.

got some parts on there way...

328 front calipers/carriers - $50 used w/ warranty
328 radiator - $50 used w/ warranty
328 gauge cluster - $90
+ the complete engine of course - $700 w/ ECU,harness,EWS,headers,etc,etc
____________________
$890 so far

still need to order a LSD, new motor mounts, new cooling hoses, some vented rotors and SS brake lines and then I think Im pretty well good to go! Oh, and Jims manual is definitly in there somewhere!

Next update will be with beginning swap pics so stay tuned.

Great to hear ! It's gonna be awesome to have a swapped Ti in the maritimes... You should come down to moncton when it's done, i'd like to go take a rip in it...

You should bring it down to the Xtreme Motorsports Fun Run in Shediac in july...
